Roy, You don't have Unger on the list. If that wasn't an oversight, can you explain what you don't like about him? I really like him from the limited stuff I've seen. I think he can be an Eric Steinbach type player- in regards to his versatility... I think he played all 5 OL positions during his career.

My list has quite a bit of variables that I don't have the time to go through. A part of it has to do with probability that a player will be available compared to players I have around him. Some people call that "value" or whatever. In my estimate, Unger is currently overvalued.

We all have opinions. I just think that Eric Wood will be better than Unger. Especially since I've seen mock drafts where Unger is drafted by the Steelers in the 1st round, I think Wood will be better value.

Which is why I predict him to be gone by the 33rd pick.

No disagreement here. Which is why he has come off my board. I'm not looking to trade down to get him nor would I trade up to get him. It is more a matter of where we are on the draft slots and where I see him coming off the board.

Here is a dumb question, so, if a guy isn't on your list but he slips from where you thought he'd be, how do you know to draft him as excellent value. probably you have another list to protect against overlooking a great value.

I don't have scouts all over the country and millions of dollars invested in research. Just a couple of web sites and my own peepers to determine who I'd want and when. After the draft, I can go back to this list and say "I told you so" when a guy I wanted outperforms the guy the Texans drafted. I have no desire whatsoever of trying to rank over 300 players in terms of fit and need for the Texans. My point is to show that I can do more with less. There are plenty of websites that rank every college player. What I try to do is to simply distill all those choices into 50 or so players who would be a good addition to the Texans roster. Undoubtedly, the Texans will most likely draft some players who are not My Guys. That's when I feel vindicated in complaining. Sometimes, they do pick one of my guys - Antwaun Molden, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I feel especially biased in hoping those players get on the field and make contributions. So, if Unger just happens to be available at #45 and I draft William Moore instead, I think I can live with that. However, I seriously doubt that Unger lasts that long, so it's kind of a moot point.

A slight adjustment. I'll probably still end up drafting Matthews at #15, but he does drop a couple of slots. I've also removed McBath from Texas Tech as I try to consolidate a bit. Today's date is 3/9/09, just so I will know and not update at least until 3/16. I probably shuffle this thing at least 3 times a day.

After some consideration, I've decided to put Unger back on the list. Still think it's a moot point, but I think I really want him more than LeSean McCoy. Afterall, there are other RBs who may be available later in the draft, but not many versatile OL. So, to keep things concise, Unger will replace McCoy on the My Guys draft board on its next update. I also think I'll be adding another USC Trojan.

It's my draft board for the Texans. If I were the GM and the draft were held today, that would be what I would use to draft players for the the team.

Okay, for fun, I took Roy's list and used players available on Drafttek on the 3/13 version.
1. Aaron Maybin 2. Paul Kruger 3. Chip Vaughn 4a. Lawrence Sidbury 4b. A.Q. Shipley 5. Kory Irvin 6. Ian Johnson 7. Stephen Hodge Wow. Do you think that would help the defense any? ![]() |
