I can tell you the purpose of it is to keep defenses from changing personnel on the fly, plus it puts more pressure on the defense to be ready for an early snap. But, as you mentioned, it has the potential to confuse your own players.

I can tell you the tv crews don't like it because they have a tough time deciding whether to fit in a replay of the previous play or stay with the live action. There were several times Thursday night where Fox missed the snap of the live play because they were showing the replay of the previous one.

Eventually, either d-coordinators will find a way to thwart this or the rules committee will force a rule change.

Why don't they just put a radio in the QB's helmet, like the Pros? Having the whole team look over at the sideline just looks crazy.

It was meant to force the defense to show something of what they were going to do before the offense had to commit to a certain play. But Florida wouldn't show anything, and then when Oklahome did run the play Florida, after a month to prepare, were right there to stop it. Sensless. I would have expected more from a Stoops coached team.

I understand the purpose, my point which I am having a hard time getting across, was/is the only thing it seems to accomplish is slowing the offense down and killing any momentum they had gained on the previous play. Plus it was all but unwatchable. The Florida Oklahoma game was one of the most boring games I have watched in some time.
