Default Thinking out Loud

At #16 I am essentially looking at the possibility of 5 players for the Texans. Obviously, anything can happen on draft day, but the highes probabilities are:

WR DeVante Parker (The last of the Big Three WRs in this class)
DL Malcolm Brown (Not a position of Need, but BPA)
OLB Bud Dupree (Don't see Fowler or Beasley being available)
WR Jalen Strong (Not 'Worth' #16 but a position of need)
OLB Eli Harold (Not 'Worth' #16 but a position of need)

The decision could come down to Strong vs. Harold. At this point, not sure which way I would go if the top 3 are off the board. I would like to trade down and get an extra pick or 2.

At # 51 there are some options that should be available and there are some that may be off the table:

CB Byron Jones / Kevin Johnson (I like both but give the nod to Jones and remember that J.Jo is at the end of his contract)

ILB Benardrick McKinney / Stephone Anthony (Both are guys who pass my eyeball test and are at a position of extreme need for me)

WR Breshad Perriman/Philip Dorsett/Nelson Agholor/Devin Smith (If we don't draft a WR in the 1st round, then these guys seem to be even more important)

OLB Chickillo/Odighizuwa/Orchard (I like Chickillo the most but have seen the other two drafted in the 2nd round, so if we don't get an OLB in the first, it might be smart to get one here.)

At # 82 I am looking to see what happened in the first two rounds but keeping an eye on talent that has 'slipped' to the third round. Obviously, see above - if one of the above players have fallen to me here (Dorsett or Chickillo) then I'm very likely to draft them.

Another guy who I have ranked much higher than where he has been mocked is DE Henry Anderson. He reminds me of Richard Seymour and can't understand why he is not being hyped up. I would draft him in the 2nd and wouldn't be surprised to see New England pick him up at #32 and shock everyone. I have seen him ranked #124 and I have selected him at #116 on some mocks, so splitting the differense, he is the guy I'm looking at for #82.

If we haven't gotten an OLB at this point, Z'Adarius Smith is going to be a 'reach' we would have to make.

The most 'talented' QB in the draft is Bryce Petty in terms of throwing the ball into tight windows and having arm strength to get the ball down the field. He is probably off the board at this point, but I feel comfortable selecting him here.

I would be willing to draft a FS in this slot as well, Eric Rowe and Alex Carter played CB but project to FS and I would also look for Demarious Randall.

If we haven't drafted a WR in the first two rounds, Tyler Lockett makes sense here.

My favorite RB is David Johnson because of the value he would give you this late in the draft.

At #116 I don't believe I can wait any longer for TE Jesse James. If he's unavailable I could look for LBs like Ben Heeney, Jordan Hicks, Mike Hull, or Davis Tull.

If we haven't drafted a WR as of yet, don't worry this is a deep class and I would take a look at Tre McBride, Chris Conley, or Justin Hardy here.

If you want a RB as insurance for Arian Foster, David Cobb, Jeremy Langford, TJ Yeldon, Mike Davis, or Buck Allen could be available.

If I'm concerned that I haven't addressed the FS position I take a look at Prewitt, Sample, or Kurtis Drummond.

At #152 I must have an ILB either Jake Ryan or Bryce Hager. I'm also looking to add an additional WR like Ty Montgomery, Antwan Goodley, or Jamison Crowder. One of my favorite DLs in the draft at this position of the draft is Derrick Lott. This might be the lowest point to draft an Offensive lineman who could start - Mitch Morse or Jamil Douglass.

I'm also keeping an eye open on RBs Tyler Varga, Cameron Artis-Payne, Karlos Williams, and Zach Zenner.

That's really all I can say and have to wait to see where we are and what is left to make comments about the back half of the draft.

Okay, I had my strategy in place, but since I haven't paid for the Premium package to conduct trades, I just went with it. Somebody mentioned drafting Trae Waynes, so figured, "Why not? "

#16 CB Trae Waynes
#51 ILB Bernardick McKinney
#82 DE Henry Anderson
#116 FS Eric Rowe
#152 WR Stefan Diggs
#175 WR Ty Montgomery
#195 RB Tyler Varga
#211 OLB Kyle Emanuel
#216 QB Shane Carden
#235 WR Antwan Goodley

I would have to say that I am very happy with the results as a whole. 3 WRs may be a bit much, but Goodley was too good to pass on.

If Amari Cooper, Kevin White, or Vic Beasley aren't available, trading down and getting another 2nd and/or 3rd round pick is very appealing to me. Here is why:

Eli Harold

Preston Smith

Devin Smith (Just watch the first catch)

Breshad Perriman (The hands aren't that bad)

Stephone Anthony
