this is indeed a sketchy situation. it's not like the texans are in anyway at fault for cutting ties after 2+ years. but if they have rehab-ed him all the way to playing shape and then gave him away for nothing it will be another flop in the texans' everlasting LT debacle. i'm not totally sure i buy the "not fitting the system" bit because why on earth would kubiak draft and praise him if he didn't fit? why would they keep him going this long? he's got to be a better option than butler or salaam as a backup T, why chunk the duece? the medical staff must really not have liked what they saw... i had no doubts that he was going to get another chance somewhere, maybe even break back into a playing role somewhere...but...so quickly? the time frame bothers me with spencer saying that he was that close.

If they put him at guard instead of LT, even if he is a starter, then from what little I know about the zone blocking system it could be about the new system. It is my understanding that the guards have to be very athletic in this system, and that a big guy like spencer might not fit the system. All that said, I really don't have a clue what went into the decision, and I just have to hope they know what they are doing. |

cadams-i meant somewhere in the nfl, not somewhere on the o'line
![]() papabear, i gotta say it sounds like you thought it through a little more than i did hahaha....i didn't even think about other teams' not wanting to trade for him...but...man this really has a chance to be a thorn in the texans and all their fans' side.

I've also seen the bit about giving him away for nothing bit a couple of other places. My response to that....If Smith had traded for a guy who had only two career starts, hadn't played in two years, might not be ready to play to right now and/or might never play again what would the reaction around here be? If it was for a 6th or 7th no one would be too upset, but there were even a few complaints about the 6th we gave up for a known reliable starter in Myers. Everyone knew that the Texans were going to have make a decision on Spencer before camp. I suppose the Texans could have tried bring him to camp and then trade him, but at this point he wouldn't have much value especially if he gets to camp and can't participate. My feeling is that the Texans were hoping his injury scared everyone off, and they would bring him back if we suffer an injury to the line in camp. Carolina called their bluff, but if they didn't think he was healthy to go 100% in camp they didn't have much choice.
