It must be the Texans that are unwilling to negotiate. I have to imagine they look at Schaub and think he is a gamble to play full seasons into his mid-30s coming off a lisfranc injury, I dunno.

I agree though. I didn't see nearly enough progress from Yates this preseason to think he'd be ready to carry the team in 2013.

To think, the Texans could have extended Schaub and created enough room to keep either Winston or DeMeco...

Schaub's market value must be tough to get a clear estimate on though.

Not sure if this is 100% accurate, but it appears fairly close.
Shows contract status and cap hits.
Interesting stuff.

Top 53 + dead money ($16MM) is right at $121MM. Not too far off of Schefters reporting of $700K over.

This is what I think. Injury concerns aside I believe the team is waiting for other deals to get done in order to have a better idea of what Schaub might be worth according to the market.

I think Schaub's value should be in the $8.5MM~$10MM range. I understand the injury concern, but unless it's someting that will put him out indefinitely for '13, I don't see them as having a choice but to re-sign him. There's just nothing in the pipeline and I don't think there's going to be a good, veteran QB available in trade or FA (Kevin Kolb, Kyle Orton, anyone? joking...).

I guess they could trade for or draft a young QB, but who? Cousins?? Even then would you feel comforatble giving the reins of a potentail SB contender to a young QB? Wish we could blend TJ's youth and arm strength with Schaub's knowledge, vision, touch and patience.

I did an article on this awhile ago, but this system, dating back to the Bronco days, seems to take a QB 3 years to really become effective in it. Not to say there can't be some earlier success, of course, but it's the 3rd year that showed a jump.

Next year will be T.J.'s 3rd year. I just have not seen enough improvement in his 2nd camp to make me think that this next leap is coming. And I had referenced QBs with better pedigree's than T.J. in that article (Cutler, Plummer, and Griese, not to mention Schaub...).

Per the NFLPA via PFT, cap space:
