Default Ed Reed Dumps On Texans

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/h...r-left-ravens/

This was the final year of the Kubiak/Phillips regime in Houston, says he was lied to in free agency, claims he would still be playing in the NFL if he never left the Ravens.

IIRC, Reed was a much ballyhooed offseason signing but, on the field, was constantly burned. Did the same thing with the Jets after we released him.

I suspect Reed was a true "free safety" with the Ravens - no coverage assignments, he was just there to punish any opponent who dared to cross the middle. Wade wanted him to actually cover receivers because his defensive scheme relied on heavy blitzing and you can't have a guy playing "center field" when you're sending in blitzers without leaving somebody open.

I'm guessing that was the "lie". Reed was always a little slow in coverage and the Ravens' D was able to disguise this, partly due to how well his Miami U. teammate Ray Lewis covered.

The General, on a podcast on the chronicle.com, stated the Ravens did not want him cause Ozzie knew he was done. It is said that Reed never let the Texans know of his hip injury and surgery that off season. Ozzie was aware of hip injury and never let Rick Smith know of it. (It's was not Oziie's job to relay that info to other teams.)

Ed is known for shooting off his mouth.
