Default Jethro franklin Interview

I saw this over at Stephanie Stradley's blog....and I'm sure many of you have already seen it, but she links to a an interview with Jethro Franklin where he talks about the D-Line. I know the Travis Johnson is only slightly less hated than Petey Faggins by many Texans fans and I found the part where Jethro talks about him to be pretty interesting...mainly because I have been saying that I thought Travis Johnson had a pretty good year last year and people should cut him some slack.

Quote:
On what they are looking at for the defensive tackle play next to the three technique DT: (Translated, hey man, do you want a space eating DT to help Okoye out or what?) Franklin: "The perfect world is what we have." "We have our guy Travis Johnson." "We want a guy who can move" "Travis Johnson did a heck of a job for us."
I know this could be a coach just giving a positive sound bite about one of his players, but it contradicts the prevailing wisdom of us needing a DT.

I am with you here, I thought TJ had a solid year. People sometimes need to remember it is not the players fault where he was picked.

I thought is was interesting what the team was/is looking for in the DTs.

I think Travis gets some abuse from the fans for the dumb late hit penalties/taunting and some of that garbage.

Hopefully he has leaned to control his anger this offseason and also got his "Wizzard of Oz" characters straightened out.

I probably fall into the camp of fans who are aggravated by his penalties, dumb decisions, etc. Granted, I'm no D-line expert and I'm sure he does things that I'm not learned enough to appreciate, but it sure seems like his biggest hits and most passionate outbursts take place after the whistle. I'd like, for once, for him to light somebody up when it counts. I'd also like for all of that energy he expends taunting and trashtalking to also be used during, you know, the actual play rather than after it.
