On a defense that is so depleted that is a pretty stupid career move. I don't think he will regret it as much as some because of his freakish physical gifts, but I think he will regret it.

Not to start a debate on the subject, but this always baffles me. If I'm an NFL GM, this makes me instantly question Mays' love of football and committment to the game.

...and I'm guessing he's not an actuarial science major.

WHY? Because he wants to go back to school and play fun football for one more year?????

Well that saddens me. I suppose I'll start my very own Paul Kruger bandwagon.

Whenever a kid can't play because of academics, I always pause about spending 1st round money on. I wonder about his character off the field. Is he smart enough to understand a complex defense? Does he have maturity issues that he needs to address? Will he work hard with guaranteed money in hand? That's just too many ???? for my liking, regardless of the talent level. I'd imagine that a motivated Frank Okam could do what Raji could do.

This brings up a good point. Where is Okam in his development and what is his REAL upside. If he isn't going to make it then we need to draft that position for sure, otherwise I'll pass it for another year in order to get another LB or S.

Watching the playoffs on TV, and I am not the expert you guys are, it is obvious that the Texans are not in the class of the Ravens, Steelers, Eagles, etc. when it comes to run defense. We must go there first, but I am not sure whether that means a DL, LB, or S. They all play their part in Run stopping. I would like to see a head hunter at Safety (Had my eye on Mays), A mean run stuffing MLB (several) so Demeco can move outside, or a DE (I like Michael Johnson out of GT). We will never go far in the playoffs without a defense in the class of the above mentioned teams.

On an off-thread note (sorta): How can a Defensive Coach like Frank Bush work for Smith when he has a completely different philosophy of defense that his boss. Are we likely to see the same defense rehashed or has he been playing possum.
