I'm seeing more and more mocks with Dillard going around 15-18...and Rock Ya-Sin is gaining a lot of ground and could be one of the 1st CBs taken. Casserly, of all people, has had him in the 1st all draft season long and now everyone else is starting to agree.
If you were the Texans and liked a guy like Dillard, would you be willing to give up one of your 2nds to move up to the mid-teens to draft him? Its a little too steep for me. I don't think I would do it. I think I would rather stay put or trade back a little and take one of the OGs or Greg Little. |

Related to my post above...I just did a mock and traded back with GB when Hockenson fell to me but all the 1st rd OTs were gone. I was only able to get a 4th and 7th from GB to trade back 7 slots...should have been more...

But I am more inclined to want one or two more picks, so a trade down would be preferred. But I want to stay in the 1st round.

According to the draft trade chart I usually use (http://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp), this trade would be fair...
Texans send #23 and #55 (1,110 pts) to Carolina for #16 and #100 (1,100 pts). I think I would pull the trigger on that...assuming the guy at #16 is going to be an impact player for years to come. --- I tried the above trade with Carolina, but they wouldn't send me pick #100. They did make the trade sending me their 4th rounder along with #16 (1,064 pts total). This is how the first 4 rounds went... 16: R1P16 OT ANDRE DILLARD WASHINGTON STATE (Jawaan Taylor also was there and Carolina took him at 23...LOL) 54: R2P22 CB ROCK YA-SIN TEMPLE 86: R3P22 OT TYTUS HOWARD ALABAMA STATE 115: R4P13 RB MILES SANDERS PENN STATE TRADES TRADE PARTNER: CAROLINA PANTHERS SENT: ROUND: 1 PICK: 23 ROUND: 2 PICK: 23 RECEIVED: ROUND: 1 PICK: 16 ROUND: 4 PICK: 13 --- Edited to add: I tried it again and was able to get them to include their 6th rounder as well... |

On The Clock wouldn't let me deal with the Panthers but I traded up with the Giants for #17 and a 4th for our 1st and 2nd. That left us with one pick in every round. I then went and made two trade-downs, one in the second and one in the 4th that netted two more 5th-rounders. The result:
17: R1P17 OT ANDRE DILLARD, WASHINGTON STATE Given he was #20 on the big board I had, I don't think he would have lasted to #23. 61: R2P29 G MICHAEL DEITER, WISCONSIN Versatile guard/tackle who should win a spot somewhere. 86: R3P22 CB ISAIAH JOHNSON, HOUSTON Our local kid, small and raw but with real upside. 118: R4P16 DL DAYLON MACK, TEXAS A&M Fireplug for the NT spot. 150: R5P12 RB BENNY SNELL JR., KENTUCKY Bryce Love was gone but I am happy to have this kid. 161: R5P23 WR HUNTER RENFROW, CLEMSON Right about where I usually take him. 167: R5P29 OT ISAIAH PRINCE, OHIO STATE Adding more o-line depth. You figure if he's a Buckeye he's got some cred. 195: R6P22 LB JOE GILES-HARRIS, DUKE Inside LB who often goes higher in mocks. 220: R7P6 S EVAN WORTHINGTON, COLORADO Late riser who fills safety hole. You and I like many of the same players. And I agree I just don't see Dillard last to #23. Also I like your trade downs.

It appears FanSpeak has done a little data mining, collecting which positions users are taking per round in their mock drafts since January.
For the Texans, users preferred: Round 1 ------------------- OT - 36% S - 29% CB - 14% G - 9 % C - 7 % Round 2 ------------------- CB - 25% WR - 22% S - 17% G - 15% OT - 14% Round 3 ------------------- RB - 38% CB - 14% G - 13% WR - 11% S - 9 % All percentages rounded down. Keep in mind, our needs changed through free agency and some big boards would list a player at different positions. Dalton Risner, for example, would be listed on some boards as OT, some had him as G and a few had him at C. So, while the data is interesting, it comes with a few caveats. However, if you're drafting for the Texans, your most likely top of the draft was: 1st - OT 2A - CB 2B - WR 3rd - RB |

And that is why it amazes me when I see a mock not addressing OL in the top four picks. I saw the email discussing these number and now I am glad I waited for them to be posted here. Thank you for posting the highlights for us.
