According to Over The Cap, the Texans have $11 million left in the cupboard. Hopkins' base salary is $1 million but he's also making $981,673 in pro-rated signing bonus and $445,000 in roster bonus money so his actual pay this year is over $2.25 million. Not bad but not Kareem Jackson money.

Since we drafted Fuller and Miller, the easiest way to pay Hopkins is simply to cut Cecil Shorts - he has a $1.2 million salary but only $200K is guaranteed. We lose the $500K pro-rated bonus but keep the $800K roster bonus for a cap savings of $1.75 million. Give that money to D-Hop and he's now getting paid $4 million while Cecil takes it in the shorts. We still have four receivers better than he is (arguably) so he won't be missed.
