Not poking a hole in your theory but I don't think I can automatically discredit a QB from Memphis or North Dakota St. simply because they aren't among the elite conferences. Only that the dice role is a little bit more against you if you are reaching for small-college players.

Flacco has basically played a good month of football in his 8 year NFL career. It was a well timed month, but even a QB starved franchise like ours shouldn't want another Joe Flacco.

I'd be happy with this. IMO, there's no "got to" player out there at #22 unless we just get lucky so a trade down for multiple picks in rounds 2-5 is the way to maximize this draft.

I'm thinking Houston's best position is to trade down and get more second-day talent.

At this point, if I can get a 3-for-1 to trade down that includes a high 2nd, 3rd and 4th, that's better to me. Walter Football's boards are a bit whacked from the others so good talent is available late. Combining both of these led to a draft that is probably too good to be true. Note, I traded down one spot in the second for a fifth then used that pick as bait to move up on Day 3 when Alex Collins was still available.

I actually had my choice of OT Conklin or DE Bullard at 2/4 and went with the OT with an eye on dumping Brown or Newton in the near future. The QBs disappeared fast so I got Hackenberg when he was the last of the six left. Still, I added other guys I see mentioned in first-round mocks like Coleman and Kelly and still had room in the 4th for Collins and Vannett so the offense got a major upgrade. Unfortunately, I didn't help the D-line like I intended but we can hopefully re-sign Crick and the coaches are high on Covington from last year's draft who came on late in the season.

Bob, I agree with your thoughts on getting multiple picks, but even with multiple picks I would not use one on Hack. I am not against taking a flyer on a QB, just not that QB and not with your 2nd pick.

Also as you stated, that list is wack. Coleman in the 3rd?

Lastly I'm not sure I drop out of the 1st completely, and I'm also not a Conklin fan, he feels like a RT only guy to me. I could be wrong on that one. I would have gone with Bultard over Conk. But thats Chocolate and Vanilla. We each have our preferences.

Honestly, I think the Broncos, if they can't land Kaepernick or Fitzpatrick, almost have to land a competent QB in the first round to back up Sanchez. If so, they would be wrong to stand pat at #31 and hope Lynch falls to them. I could easily see the Broncos trading up with us and giving us #31 and #63. But I'd still fall into the upper second for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th if given a chance. I think we have so many holes to fill that owning 5 picks in the first two days is better than having three picks with one at #22. But that's just me.
