I think with a loss to KC combined with a loss to Indy, we're done. At that point it's start Keenum, trade Tate for whatever you can get for him, move Reed to ILB and see what you got because he isn't doing squat at OLB/pass-rush, start Jefferson at OLB, IR Daniels and let the young TE's play as much as possible, etc... Just do whatever else you can to see what level of young talent you have.
As for the coaching staff, personally, I think this staff has ran it's course. It's been 8 or so years now and I don't think they'll ever get it done. Why continue with mediocrity or just above average? If Kubiak does stay, I'd mandate that he relinquish OC duties for sure. It's ridiculous to me that he's HC and has a puppet for a OC, and then to top that off, won't let his 8-yr vet QB audible. Kubiak's either a stubborn control freak or extremely paranoid. If you can't trust your QB to audible, maybe that's an indication he's not the right QB to lead your team. I don't even know what to do with Smith. He's done some good things, but IMO, the depth on this team is way below average and that's a direct reflection on him and Kubiak. He's also approved and/or made some horrible signings and hasn't done a good job of managing the cap (who wouldn't kill to have Quinn over Reed now?). Considering all that, I guess I'd jettison him as well. I guess that would put me in the C or D category. |

Replace kubiak, IR everyone I can, replace Schaub (not as an audition, as an inevitability). Get as low as possible in the standings. If you are going to waste a season, waste one like Indy did 2 years ago.

I've been complaining for years that the Texans would never win with Kubiak and this year's debacle has done nothing but redefine that sentiment for me.
I would certainly bench Schaub and start Yates or preferably Keenum. Either of the younger guys is by default more mobile, could not possibly have a weaker arm and cannot possibly make as many bad decisions as Schaub. I would play Keenum Sunday and beyond and if he avails himsef, great, if not, the team should have a good enough draft pick to get a promising quarterback. Just this morning I had a change of heart regarding Kubiak. I was going along with most people, you know, let's fire his dumb ass after the season. But he is the focal point of this team's cancer. I say fire his ass now and see if we can salvage the season. The reasoning obviously is I have no faith whatever in Kubaik's ability to do anything positive. I would leave Wade where he is and promote whoever else is most senior to he interim head coach. I'll bet you would see an immediate change in the team's attitude. This will never happen, of course. For all I know Kubaik will be the head coach next year. In fact, I would bet on it. |

Even money on Kubiak. +110 on Schaub as starting QB. For non-gamblers, that means they don't think he will be.

I would take even money on Kubiak's being HC and I would back up the truck on Schaub's not being the starting QB. And I say this before I know whether Case is any good.

That would probably be Marciano. And at this point, I'd be OK with it because they'd continue to suck and it would guarantee change in 2014. My worst fear would be Wade gets promoted and they start winning and we're relegated to another 5+ years of average.

I guess I should have said the most senior coach who has shown a capacity to be able to coach but thinking about it if it would get Marciano the hell away from the special teams I'm all for it.
