Where is Barwin?

I don't want to pay him that much money if he's going to disappear like this. Three weeks in and it's almost as if he's not even on this team.

I noticed him in on one play in a passing situation against Miami. He's been playing a lot on special teams.

Mercilus has been on STs and seen some defensive snaps in garbage time. That tells me either he's behind in the learning curve or Wade is so pleased with his OLBs that he's willing to let Mercilus be groomed slowly.

...Before the season, he swapped proposals with the Texans. Ultimately, Barwin turned down their final offer, and the Texans instead signed quarterback Matt Schaub to an extension.

“Yeah, it was a lot of money, and that was really hard to (turn down the offer),” Barwin said. “That was a tough time. But I know what kind of season I’m capable of having, and I plan to have it.

“I definitely want to stay here. We’ve got a good thing going. We’ve got a good locker room. We’ve got some great guys on this team. We have great chemistry. Everybody works hard and wants to win.”

‘Just a matter of time’

So Barwin turned down millions and plugs along making a base salary of $565,000. He won’t go hungry, of course.

“I’m not worried about it,” he said. “It’s not an easy thing to go through, but when it didn’t happen I focused on the season.”

Barwin is certain his contract negotiation and three games without a sack are unrelated.

You know, if the other 3/4ths of his season look like the first 1/4th, we may wind up signing him for less than the offer we gave him.

Panic is a little strong, but his lack of production is concerning to me for someone who's supposed to be "the guy". Maybe he was prematurely anointed that title. Time will tell, but its something to continue to watch.

His numbers are very Marioish......
