I've wanted the 3-4 anyway. Usually a more aggressive defensive base.
Don't like giving him GM control, as that rarely works out....but....we'll see. |

If and & buts were candy and nuts, we would all have a very merry Christmas. I'll believe it when I see it. And I doubt very much that Cower wants to leave all his chums on the pre-game show.

Shoot, I think it's Cowher's people putting all the rumors out there that he is interested in the Texans job.

How does Mario, a prototypical 4-3 defensive end, fit in a 3-4? This is my biggest issue in switching schemes, not coaching just schemes since it seems what talent we do have on defense is suited for the 4-3. A defense resembling Chicago, or the Giants or Vikings (last year anyway) would do just fine. I could be wrong but someone like Cowher concerns me in this regard.

Which guy on the Steelers pushed for Levon Kirkland and Greg Lloyd? If that was Cowher, I have no problem giving him GM control. If it was somebody else, then I'm a little worried. There's no doubt the Steelers have been great drafters over the years and know exactly what they are looking for and seem to find them and plug them into their system. I'm jealous as hell about it, but you have to give them props for their success.

I've been on Kubiak's corner all year but if we can get Cowher then I'm all for it. I also have no problem switching to 3-4. Regardless of whether Mario fits or not it can't possibly get worse than this year.

That defense of ours is horrible. To be concerned what we would do with Mario "single teamed all year long" Williams is the least of our worries.
We all agree that our secondary is beyond bad. Pittsburg has always had a pretty good secondary so Cowher would understand the need for a dominant safety...we still don't get that after all these years for some reason. But our LB's and DL are a different story. I think a defensive minded coach could coach these guys up. The defense has to average less than 20 pts a game and we have (definitely have imo) the front seven to do that. And we need to quit discriminating against the Samoans...we need more Samoans on the defense! |

I'm not that excited about Cowher. I'd really rather have a younger guy, somebody who is clearly very hungry and has some smarts. Right off hand I have no idea who that would be, but these name guys who are part celeb like Cowher or Chucky on MNF don't appeal to me that much ?
Take a look at how Shanny is doing in Washington ? There's a pretty good comparison to Cowher in several ways. How's that working out ? Right. Actually i wouldn't mind have Shannys kid here to be the Texans HC, but that's clearly out of the question. |

Since Mario has been in the NFL, he has been terrible against the run. However, he has the size and speed to be great...that's potential. Potential means nothing, ask David Carr. Mario is currently great as a supporting cast member, not a difference maker. No O coordinator gameplans around him. With the right DC/HC that could change. Personally, I don't want Cowher because I anticipate a performance like his last year in Pittsburgh, similar to what Shanihan is and will do in Washington. |
