Texans kicking tires on two veterans on Tuesday
Posted by Mike Florio on September 13, 2010 8:24 PM ET
With Week One come and gone, NFL teams are beginning the process of checking out vested veterans whose base salaries would have been guaranteed if they had been on a roster for the first game of the season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, and we have confirmed, that defensive end Adewale Ogunleye and defensive end Bobby McCray will work out for the Texans on Tuesday.

One or both (or possibly neither) will be signed to replace defensive end Connor Barwin, who suffered a season-ending injury on Sunday against the Colts.

McCray certainly fits the mold. Smallish speed rusher, used to be a Jaguar IIRC. Ogunleye always struck me as slightly larger and not strictly a pass rusher.

And I don't think that waiting past the first week of the season is a factor here. I think that, prior to Sunday, they weren't in the need for that position.

Kubiak said they might bring in 5 or 6 guys Tuesday afternoon.

Bobby McCray, 6'6", 260, 29 yrs old, 1.5 sacks for Saints in 2009, apparent maybe back problems

Adewale Ogunleye, 6'4", 260, 33 yrs old, 6.5 sacks for Bears in 2009, durable

Leonard Little, 6'3", 267, 36 yrs old, 6.5 sacks for Rams in 2009, durable, says he wants to retire, similar to Schoebel

guess we'll see what happens sometime this week.

I'm not too big into acquiring "names". But, I sure do like the aggressive nature the Texans are taking to resolve issues this season. Clearly, the organization has expectations for this team this year in ways it hasn't had before.

Default Texans sign two veteran DE

According to chron we signed two DE, Ryan Denney and Adewale Ogunleye, and waived Tim Jamison, who is practice squad elegible.

Denney from Buffalo and Ogunleye from Chicago, both 33. I guess meant to replace depth we had with Barwin and Bulman who are both on IR now.

I guess we'll see how they rotate in and how this might effect the special teams.

...And how long it takes them to adapt to our defensive system.
