Kubiak, Texans talk to Schobel but nothing is imminent

Quote:
"Nothing has changed. We're still in the informational process," Kubiak told the Texans' official Web site. "I talked to him the other day.

"It's just a matter of every day, what does Aaron want to do? Where does he want to do it? We'll stay part of that process."

Might just be a case of Aaron not wanting much to do with camp and we are just waiting on him.

From the chron:

Schobel to retire

Quote:
Defensive end Aaron Schobel made it official today: He’s retiring rather than considering returning to play for the Texans.

Schobel walked away from an $8 million base salary with Buffalo this year but said he would like to play for the Texans. Now he’s elected to stay retired.

“Obviously, it would have been a great place to play, but at point of my career, I’m not going to sit here and tell you how I would have performed,” he said today. “I’m not saying I could or couldn’t have played at my best, but I’m just not 100 percent sure.

“I want to be done with it. I’m going to leave it as is. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play, anyway. I’m going to be 33 in two weeks, and I’m leaving the game on my terms and nobody else’s. I’m just going to leave it alone and retire.”

This is my opinion, but if we were closer to a solid run for a ring, I bet he would have been more amenable to spending a year or two here. Money is obviously not a motivation, but a Super Bowl Ring may have been. A look at this weeks preseason game may have convinced him that with a bummed RB, no B/U QB, etc. we were not as close as he first thought.

You know I wonder if this guy could go Brett Favre on us ? I mean if he really lives just 60-70 west of here on I-10, and as we get closer to the regular season kickoff, it's gonna start eating on him about being out there and playing ? That's been his life for most of his life (HS, college, NFL).
And god I don't want to jinx anybody, but if we were to have another injury (we've already lost Bullman) at DE, he might get the bug again to come play
if he felt really needed ? Then there's the money ?
Playing football to these guys is probably as important as sex to many of them. Why would you leave millions and millions of dollars on the table to do something you love to do, but know that very soon you can't do it any longer ? He's gotta be thinkin all about all of that no matter what he's said so far ?

On the radio postgame show, ND Kalu threw out the name of Derrick Burgess, who was recently cut by the Patriots, as a possible replacement for Barwin.

That made me think of Adalius Thomas, another ex-Pat who could fill that role, but last I heard his salary demands were scaring teams away after he was cut last spring.
