On that last note, I think Foster has improved his running from where it was a year ago. It seems to me he runs harder to the hole now. A year ago I think I saw more hesitation in his game.
Also I know Kubiak hates to put in backs until he trusts their pass blocking. That may have been part of why he didn't play more last year. |

That and Foster was POed that he was not drafted. He was cut and when he got back he still did not get the amount of work he needed to do to get in the game. Until you can block you do not run.

Yep, there was some attitude issues and some friction with the coaching staff but by all reports, Foster is now onboard and conducting himself to everyone's satisfaction...

So Tate's injured and may be gone for the year. Slaton has obviously not cured his fumbling problem. Foster looked good though and may be our regular season starter. Barring injury, I think the backfield question has been settled.

I thought game went very good for first practice game, many positives, I am optomistic some of the weaknesses will get better before first real game a month from now. You know Arizona has been to playoffs two years in a row, and overall, we did dominated them , of course they have lost a few key players this offseason. I thought perhaps the marginal roughing passer call on Jamison seemed like a turning point for our defense, along with JDB group couldn't make a first down till too late. On to N.O., another good test to evaluate on. And I think coaches doing well with all these young guys. plenty for them to evaluate and try to fix now. My biggest thought is for the fans that are crying about losing a game in which the starters and the 2nd team guys looked solid, then those fans do not deserve to be on this board. Go post on the chron.com or the official board at HoustonTexans.com.
There was enough positives to be thankful for that a few bad plays by Fred Bennett.Bennett is gone. Move on. Now what RBs are out there on street right now? Anthony Aldridge? (Notgonnahappen) I do not see them not replacing the roster spot due to the reps in camp needing bodies. A vet makes the most sense at this time. Chris Taylor is in NE. Any names you guys can think of?

Virtually all the players who will see significant time once the season starts played well. Aside from the Tate injury (and I guess the Slaton fumble), I'm very pleased with the first outing. Finally, while it's not really happening here, I've heard lots of complaints about not letting Rackers kick in a "pressure, end-of-game" situation. Since both kickers are competing for 1 spot, isn't every kick for Rackers and Brown a pressure kick where 1 miss may be the difference, whether it is in the 1st quarter or 4th? Plus, by alternating between the two, each can only expect 1 or 2 opportunities per game. I can't imagine either guy thinks he has any margin for error, no matter when in the game he is kicking. |
