I agree, we won't shift from the ZBS with the hiring of Dennison. On the other hand, I like that he is younger and perhaps less set in his ways. Just like a 4-3 defense or a west coast offense, the Zone blocking system has multiple ways it can be run.

I like that Dennison had a chance to experience the Patriots scheme, if only for a year. The patriots have never been a run team, but I sometimes think old school coaches get too set in their ways. Maybe Dennsion can tweak the system to get more 2008-type production out of the Texans' running game.

I'm of the opinion that if someone is the only one doing something (total zone scheme), the results are worse than everyone else, and they've been doing it for a while, then what they've been doing is probably wrong. I hope we change, but right now I'm not optimistic that we will.

I'm guessing Gibbs' work in Houston was largely done anyway. Our running game kinda sullied his reputation. After designing the Denver blocking in front of Terrell Davis and the Atlanta blocking in front of their hydra of good backs and getting spectacular results, the Texans never could make their running game work to such levels of success. I'm guessing our blockers had already tuned out his yelling so maybe a new yeller will get a better response.

Gibb's agrees and is quoted as saying that he felt like he felt like Benton would do a great job, and didn't want to get in Benton's way. Dennison just adds more knowledge if needed.

We shouldn't forget that with the line healthy, and a good RB we were ranked as the 13th rushing offense in 2008. That being said, I would love to see us dedicate a major part of our FA and draft assets to making this a great offensive line. The beauty of getting some all-pro guards and centers is that you can afford to keep them around.
