You guys heard Merriman is available too. A trade for a player with a name will cost us dearly I think.

Merriman was never considered by the Texans during the draft process. He has to much off field baggage, and the Tequila incident does not help, nor does the steroids, injury and lack of production. No thanks.

I would give Dorsey a shot, depending on the asking price of course. As far as college went, he was considered the best DL coming out. He had outstanding production at LSU, despite facing constant double teams, and when LSU needed a big stop, he often provided it. Of course, that is college. I always thought he would fit well on this defense, but is going to need a little more time. Also, he played through a lot of injuries in college, so there is concern about him being injured a lot. Again, if the price is right, I bite.

Thanks for the input guys.
They did mention him playing currently in the 5 technique but being better at the 3 technique which if true would make him redundant with Amobi. Their mention of him playing the nose in a 3-4 for someone like San Diego got me thinking he could play next to Okoye and give us two good young tackles like Jacksonville used to have with Stroud and Henderson. I do think we need a better option next to Okoye and maybe a guy can be gotten in the draft (Cody or Vince O????? from Duke or the like) I do agree it's a risk to give up any picks, assuming that is what KC is looking for, since this season is in flux. i want to see Kubiak and the Texans make that leap from mediocre to good, but if they lose a couple in a row it could all go south rather quickly meaning giving up a higher pick than originally thought. If we had a more stable regime in the sense of them (Kubiak and/or Smith) not being on the hot seat then maybe a trade makes more sense. |

Glen Dorsey listed at 6'1", 297 lbs. 24 yrs old, in 5 games this year, 12 solo tackles, 3 assists, no sacks, 1 pass defensed. not overwhelming production in the second year so far.

Quote:
Last year while playing in a 4/3 despite playing with several nagging injuries Dorsey Registered 50 tackles (41 solo), a sack (-1.0 yard), one pass defensed and a forced fumble. The only player on our DL with better stats than that was Mario with 53 tackles and 44 solo. Next in line, Travis Johnson with 28 and 22. |

Doesn't sound like a big NT to me, more like what we hope Okeye will be in a couple years when he's 24 years old. When I think of big DT I think like 6'5", not 6'1" and 325 lbs not 297 lbs. His tackle nos are reasonable good for a rookie overall. Upgrade, not sure. If our defense plays more consistent like it did in second half against Arizona, need to wait and see a little, maybe this isn't a place to panic at right now. Anyways, just my opinion.
