If you happened to see the "Iron Bowl"/Auburn-'Bama game yesterday, you saw a lot of talent but the guy that impressed me the most was Nick Fairley, Auburns DT. BTW, what a game and what a comeback by Auburn.
I haven't seen Auburn much at all this year, and apparently Fairly is kinda streaky, but he sure impressed yesterday and it seems like the Texans could really use him in the middle of their DLine ?

I'm going to guess Fairly will be taken higher in the first round than the Texans will be. Watching Nevada's great comeback over Boise St. last night, there was a smallish DE by the name of Moat or Moak who was dominating Boise's OL last night. I don't think his size will hold up in the NFL but he looks like he could easily convert to a blitzing LB. If he's a senior, I wouldn't be surprised to see this guy in the second or third round.

Sounds like Von Miller, the smallish Aggie edge rusher, who's only 'bout 240 ?
I'd love it if the Texans went to the 3-4 next year, and I could see it happening if the old man tells Kubiak he can keep his job but he (McNair) is gonna tell him who his DC will be. These small, quick pass-rushers can often find a home in the 3-4, even in the NFL.

I believe Dontay Moch is who HPF Bob is referring to...a smaller, faster type of DE which could translate well in the pro's- maybe a 2nd round talent but could move up if what I've read is true about him possessing 4.24 speed Right now though, I prefer Von Miller over Moch.

Nick Fairley is a beast, I've said it before on this board. I really like him and am starting to think we might have a chance to get him if he's there around the 13-16 picks. I agree that he's a little streaky, but he's already better than what we have in the middle right now.

I've been hearing that the left side on the Wisconsin O-line is one of the best in the last 20 years and I'm starting to agree considering how Wisconsin is dismantling their Big Ten opponents by 50+ point margins. We might want to pick up one or both of Gabe Carimi OT, and John Moffit OG, considering our own left sided woes.

I still think our secondary is priority #1 , but if the value isn't there in the first or second round, I have no qualms addressing the D and O-line first.

I would love for us to go 3-4D next year. But Smithiak better trade up to get Fairly because the nosetackle is the linchpin for a 3-4. I have been high on that guy all year. And of course Frank Bush would have to go. How about Wade Phillips for DC?

I see Fairly as a DE in the 3-4, we have a couple of those right now. Currently, I do not see any NTs worth a 1st round pick in this draft. There are a couple guys who could be 2nd rounders and lower round types in this draft.

But IMO Fairly will be best served in a 4-3.

76 Orlando Franklin OG Miami 6' 7" 318
108 Mason Foster ILB Washington 6' 2" 244
140 Jeff Maehl WR Oregon 6' 1" 175
172 DeQuin Evans DE Kentucky 6' 2" 250
203 Chas Henry PT Florida 6' 3" 215
15 Stephen Paea DT Oregon State 6' 1" 285
47 John Moffitt OC Wisconsin 6' 4" 313
79 Austin Pettis WR Boise State 6' 3" 200
111 Marcus Gilchrist S Clemson 5' 11" 190
143 Nate Irving ILB North Carolina State 6' 1" 235
175 Jonathan Nelson CB Oklahoma 5' 11" 180
206 Jah Reid OT Central Florida 6' 7" 315

we dropped 3 spots with the win Sunday, good news bad news.

Not a bad draft, Moffitt is a OG right now and would most likely be a OG with the current staff.

My choices:
15 traded to KC so they can take Locker for 23, 55
23 DeAndre McDaniel S Clemson 6' 1" 190
47 Deunta Williams S UNC 6' 2" 205
55 Jimmy Smith CB Colorado 6' 2" 205
79 Jerrell Powe NT Mississippi 6' 2" 330
111 Andy Dalton QB TCU 6' 3" 215
143 Nate Irving ILB North Carolina State 6' 1" 235
175 Zach Roth OT TCU 6' 6" 316
206 Eddie Jones OLB/DE Texas 6' 3" 260

Now let the DBs play for reps on the field. Powe can be a force in the middle if we stay in a 4-3 or become the future (sign a FA for 2011) force at NT in a 3-4. Dalton is a project but has a gun and mobility. A couple of new LBs to battle for time. Roth is a project type OT.

I guess this is supposed to be a pretty deep DL draft, but not so deep in the secondary. Should be interesting toward end of March. I really hope there is no lockout in the spring.

I am convinced we need to replace both safeties if we can, in the draft next year (if there is going to be one). And follow that with a DT who can put an inside passrush on for us so the dadgum opposing QB doesn't have such a comfortable pocket to sit in all day, getting ready to throw.

I'm sure you are right PK, however I think Fairly would be worth trading up for in the first, and that is definitely new for me to say that.

Using draftsite's new updated mock, looks like Fairley is going top 5, as he is on walter's...we're probably gonna need a different DT for our wishlist.

My cherry pick:
Trade with New England our 12(1200) for their 32(590) and 33(580).

32. Von Miller, LDE, Texas A&M
33. Deunta Williams, FS, UNC
44. Bruce Carter, Will-OLB, UNC
76. Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
108. Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville
140. Phil Taylor, DT/NT, Baylor
172. Alex Henery, K, Nebraska
203. Chris Culliver, CB/FS/RS, South Carolina

Newton reminds me a little of VY maybe without the pouting. He will probably want to play the glamorous QB position, but he could probably play any of the skill positions.

Deunta Williams looks like a good one. One make a good addition to our woeful safety position.

For me, I'd get another DB or safety instead of a RB at 108, just for fun,
like Marcus Gilchrist

free safety against Georgia Tech

and a kick returner
