Default Five roster spots to fill

With Tim Dobbins released today, Texans now have 5 open roster spots.

Four who are gone were linebackers.

I guess they will get a. Rback and some linebackers who are good at special teams.

Shall see how this develops during this bye week.

Aside from the loss of Cush, which is going to suck enough by iteself, my only real concern with this whole deal is the RB spot. Foster indicated he would be ready by the Colts game, but hammy's are tricky. Tate has 4 broken ribs.

That's not how you want your entire stable of RB's going into a game.

I'm trying to figure out if Kubiak is shrewd enough to have constructed this, you know, cutting Wood knowing that Foster might not be fully healthy again this year and that Tate has broken ribs, cutting an ostensibly healthy Dobbins knowing that the team is incredibly thin at the position.

So are we switching to a 5-1-5 defense with Joe Mays in the middle?

I doubt it. Plenty of coaches make weaselly roster moves aimed far more at protecting their job and creating circumstances to blame/call for patience (Schiano is the latest), but I don't think Kubs is that guy. If he had that killer/survival instinct (or shrewdness like you call it), we probably wouldn't be 2-5 in the first place.

That's a good point. I'm probably searching for reason where there is none.

There could be other motives, I just doubt self-preservation is one of them. I think it far more likely this is some effort to show everyone how serious and focused they are.
