Since we drafted Fuller and Miller, the easiest way to pay Hopkins is simply to cut Cecil Shorts - he has a $1.2 million salary but only $200K is guaranteed. We lose the $500K pro-rated bonus but keep the $800K roster bonus for a cap savings of $1.75 million. Give that money to D-Hop and he's now getting paid $4 million while Cecil takes it in the shorts. We still have four receivers better than he is (arguably) so he won't be missed.

There is no way Hopkins signs any deal for $4 million. He will either get a giant new deal or he will continue to play/bluff holdouts for his current deal.

On an unrelated note, the NFLPA is an embarrassment and the 5th year option is one of the worst examples. Watching awful baseball players (Carl Crawford) and Basketball Players (Joe Johnson) get paid tens of millions to go away has got to make the football guys furious. Of course, if the NFLPA was filled with smart players they would be winning those labor battles, not going broke immediately after retirement. The players ought to sign only with agents who will be smart for them.
