Default Official Texans @ Lions Game Thread, 11/26/2020

The Texans return to Detroit for the first time in eight years to face the Lions. It's part of maybe the least anticipated pair of Thanksgiving Day NFL games in recent memory as the Dallas Cowboys host the Washington Football Team in the late afternoon offering. The nightcap between the Ravens and Steelers has been postponed due to COVID concerns.

Happy turkey day. Gobble gobble.

The 3-7 Texans head to Detroit this Thanksgiving to play the 4-6 Lions in the early Thursday game. The Lions are coming off a 20-0 road loss at the hands of the Carolina Panthers. The Texans are coming off a 27-20 home win over the New England Patriots. Lions QB Matthew Stafford is having an OK year: 2,581 yards passing, 17 TDs, 7 INTs, 93.7 rating. RB Adrian Peterson has had better years - 389 rushing yards, 3.7 avg). RB D'andre Swift is the #2, 331 rushing yards, 4.7 avg. WR Marvin Jones, Jr. and TE TJ Hockenson both have 5 TDs each. WRs Danny Amendola and Kenny Golladay are also favorites of Stafford. The Lion's defense is 27th in passing yards allowed and 30th in rushing yards allowed.

This is an opportunity for the Texans to get a little momentum going. They can do it if they want..... I've got it:

Texans 27, Lions 20

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TV = CBS (channel 11 local), 11:30 am CST, Thursday, 11/26/2020

Announcers = Jim Nantz, Tony Romo

The line = Texans by 3

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Thanksgiving:

FOX (late) = Washington @ Dallas, Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

Note: Ravens @ Steelers scheduled for Thursday night was moved to Sunday due to the Black Plague. This is the first time since 2005 that the NFL will have only two games played on Thanksgiving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday viewing in the Houston area:

CBS (early) = Tennessee @ Indianapolis, Ian Eagle, Charles Davis

CBS (late) = Kansas City @ Tampa Bay, Jim Nantz, Tony Romo

FOX (late) = New Orleans @ Denver, Adam Amin, Mark Schlereth

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime time:

Sunday (early 12:15 pm start) = Baltimore @ Pittsburgh (NBC; Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth)

SNF = Chicago @ Green Bay (NBC; Mike Tirico, Tony Dungy)

MNF = Seattle @ Philadelphia (ESPN)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Might not be able to post much during the Texan game, in fact, eating may make viewing impossible. As always, feel free to post your gameday comments.....

You pickin the Texans here Arky ? I don' know what to think ?
Watson was terrific Sunday but the road team is at a bigger disadvantage in these 4-day rest Thursday night game and Stafford by most accounts still has one of the best arms in the league.

According to SeeBS, Detroit is a three-point favorite which makes sense since they were shut out last week and Houston won. The over is at 52.

Pessimists will note "it was the Lions" and that three of the Texans' four wins are now against the Lions and Jaguars, but apart from another typical slow start, they were actually a competent team.

Deshaun Watson has probably had several better games statistically, but I don't recall a time when he was more poised leading the offense than today. Particularly impressive because Watson has the worst rushing offense in the league to support him and an iffy pair of guards protecting him.

Defensively, there are still major weaknesses at all three levels. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the Lions didn't feature more of Adrian Peterson prior to the game getting out of hand. The Texans are soft up the middle, and a big back like that can wear them down.

Now 3-1 after returning from the bye weekend, and easily could have been 4-0, the schedule turns back to the Colts and a chance to gauge how much of a mirage the past month has been.

A nice win on a short week but wayyy too many penalties. This showcased why both teams suck. Penalties and turnovers.

Kinda disappointed they postponed the Crips and the Bloods for tonight's TNF. Somebody's got to knock these guys off.

Early line when the Colts come to town next week has them as a 2½ to 3 pt favorite over the Texans. Opened at 3½ so a little money has come in on the Texans....

--------------------------------------------------

Fivethirtyeight.com has the Texans with a 2% chance of making the playoffs....

Texans release Kenny Stills:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...ls-sources-say

------------------------------------------------------

Don't look now but Deshaun Watson is having a very good year.

Currently #1 in yardage (3,201) - but he has played one more game than most everyone else. Several will probably pass him after the rest of the week is concluded.

68.9% completion (7th)

24 TDs (tied for 5th) with just 5 INTs.

112.5 rating (3rd behind Mahomes and Rodgers)

Eeesh, the Colts have (had) a top 5 defense and the Titans just ripped 'em a new one, 45-26.

They will probably come to town looking to atone themselves.....

Baltimore @ Pittsburgh today @ 2:40 pm on NBC in the rare Wednesday afternoon game.

Pittsburgh will then have to play Washington on Monday before the MNF game.

Baltimore will play the next day (Tuesday night) vs. Dallas.

Everybody got that? Test on Friday.....

---------------------------------------------------------

TV execs and schedule makers are probably getting data they didn't expect this year.... Things they would never want to try in a "normal", fixed schedule year...

Edit: Also, no TNF tomorrow.
