Saints acquire cornerback Bradley Roby in trade with Texans
A day after formally announcing the signing of veteran corner Desmond Trufant, the New Orleans Saints made another move to bolster their secondary, agreeing to a trade with the Houston Texans for cornerback Bradley Roby, according to an NFL Network report.
In Roby, the Saints acquired a seven-year veteran with 10 career interceptions. He has started 35 games the last three seasons with the Texans and Denver Broncos. Roby will be available to the team in Week 2, after completing a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy that began last season. *** https://www.nola.com/sports/saints/a...881653086.html *** Texans' consideration for Roby at this time was not reported. I'd be real happy if he fetched a 3rd round pick, but have to wait and see ? |

So the Texans converted $7.6M of Roby's base salary into bonus... this will allow Roby to squeeze into the Saints' limited remaining cap space.
Assuming here that the Texans are improving their return by doing this. Have to wonder what Roby + $7.6M might fetch in return. This is reminiscent to the days of the old draft trade value chart that helped equate pick values in making moves... need one now to assign a dollar value to each pick per round. |

The New Orleans Saints completed their trade for cornerback Bradley Roby on Thursday, sending a 2022 third-round draft pick and a 2023 conditional sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans.
Seems like a great deal for us. Selling our cap space to a team trying to win seems like the best way we could use it. |
