Default Austin Aztex FC

I consider myself something of a soccer fan, but news of Austin getting a USL-1 team somehow alluded me. I discovered this because the Dynamo (and NE and Columbus) have exhibition games scheduled versus the Aztex in another six weeks or so.

The team is named the Austin Aztex, and what I find interesting about them (aside from being from our great state) is that they are owned by a director from Stoke City, which is now an EPL side overseas. As such, the Aztex and Stoke have something of partnership, meaning they wear Stoke (and Chivas) -like kits (blech) and Stoke even has plans to train in Austin during their preseason, which is kinda cool.

Anyhoo, interested soccer fans can read more on the wikipedia page or the team's official website. For at least this year and next, they'll be playing their games at a high school field, Nelson Field, which is near the 290-35 interchange north of downtown.

saw that on a the schedule. I had no idea. Keith, did you watch U.S. vs. Sweeden? Ching and Clark were brilliant.

We should destroy Mexico in the upcoming qualifier.

Ching had an awesome game. Altidore is going to have to earn it to take Ching's spot before the Cup in 2010.

I was originally stoked for Sweden when I learned that Cameron and Holden were going to be in the camp, but I guess both suffered minor injuries and were sent home.

...Speaking of Dynamo, time to start a 2009 thread.
