Bryce Love is going back to Stanford which is great news for us because he was my favorite player during the bowl season. What I saw was a kid who not only reads his blocks as he bursts through the line but also as he's charging upfield. Defenders don't get good licks on him because he has outstanding vision and anticipation. Since the Texans have no high draft picks this year, I'm glad to know he's not coming out until next season. He'd pair nicely with Foreman after Lamar Miller has moved on.

I shall have to remove him from the board. I thought that he had declared.

I need to add QB Kurt Benkurt, OT Brian O'Neill, and CB Mike Hughes from UCF.

Just wondering where 3rd round starts on your board?

I don't know who's going to be available in the 3rd round at this moment. For all I know, my top 32 could all be taken in the 1st round. I am going to expand the list after the Shrine and Senior Bowl. Then really start to formulate the board after the Combine. I am not going to be surprised if I have players ranked #52-#53-#54 & have #54 go in the 2nd, #53 in the 3rd & #52 last until the 5th round. One man's trash is another GM's treasure.

I don' think he works it that way.
Actually I never quite figured out what his system is but for example he might have a 3rd or 4h round prospect on his list right next to the #2 overall pick in the Draft.

He ranks players based on some amalgam of how much value they would be to the Texans and the Colts. Therefore, players at need positions go higher and players at positions the Texans and Colts have well-stocked, will be pushed lower. It's designed so that when one or the other is on the clock, he can check his list and grab the next available player.

That's a pretty good assessment, Bob. I look at the draft as braided ropes. At the top of the draft, there is a lot of consensus as to who the top 5-10 players are going to be. Then the ropes begin to unravel and go into all sorts of unexpected directions. For example, the Buccaneers will trade up in the 2nd round and draft a Kicker. Or the Raiders will draft some CB nobody else has seen who runs a 4.32. So, I attempt to trust my eyes, know my needs, and game plan for who might be available the next time I get to select. The draft is an inexact science. One guru will fall in love with Christian Ponder, Kevin White, Cam Robinson, or Vernon Ghoulston and then others will follow the hype. Then there are players who I like that get drafted late, like Dak Prescott or David Johnson and I wonder why I didn't put them higher based on successful college careers and measurables. Would I look smarter taking them in the 2nd round, or do I look misguided if I could have drafted them in the 3rd? So, it's a mixture of attempting to maximize each round by guessing who is being overdrafted.

First time I've seen Captain Kirk rated so highly. What stands out about him?

Are you referring to Christian Kirk?

So, he's a speed guy. Do you think the Colts would want him with the WR corps they have?

Moncrief has been a disappointment. TY Hilton is all I have got, and he's not the perfect #1 either and my be wanting a new contract. I don't think that this class has my WR talent, so Kirk is a rarity. He has good value, not necessarily a good fit or filling a dire need like RG or RT or ILB or CB.

Sitting here formulating a game plan watching Senior Bowl practices as to what I might do for the Colts as I am massaging my draft board attempting to get a feel for who might be available when... of course this is all subject to change as we get numbers from the Combine. But as it stands right now with high picks in all 7 rounds, this is the type of plan I would implement.

#3 DE Bradley Chubb - I really hope he is there at #3. I could potentially move down to #5 or #6 so that the Broncos or Jets could move up for a QB and garner an extra 2nd round pick.

2nd Round - I need to address my OL. I am liking what I see from Isaiah Wynn, Tyrell Crosby, and Brian O'neil. I'm not sure that I can wait for one of these guys to fall to the top of the 3rd round.

3rd Round - My target is a big CB that may not run a sub 4.5 but has Press-Man skills and Ball skills. I would love to get Isaiah Oliver from Colorado. I could also target Kevin Toliver, Duke Dawson, Quenton Meeks, or Kameron Kelly.

3rd Round option - If I had gained an extra 3rd round pick by trading down earlier I might attempt to find another OLB. This is where BPA really comes into play. The 4 candidates I am looking at are Okoronkwo, Dorance Armstrong, Tyquan Lewis, or possiblie Kylie Fitts later on in the draft.

4th Round - I am going to be looking for another OL who could potentially start later in the season as he gets up to speed and coached up. Sort of how the Texans used Davenport last year. I'm willing to take some lumps if there is upside. I like the kid from NC A&T Brandon Parker, but he might not be available in the 4th. So, I'm looking for Kolton Miller, Joseph Noteboom, Cole Madison, or even Alex Cappa.

5th Round - Searching for a big back to replace Gore. The RB hungry teams have probably selected the best ones early, so I'm going to take the scraps left over. Perhaps a Royce Freeman or Bo Scarbrough.

6th Round - I am not in love with the WR class, but I will take a flyer. Love watching DaeSean Hamilton this week, and that may make him unavailable come draft day. My other targets are Javon Wims and TreQuan Smith.

7th Round - Looking for an ILB that can tackle. Candidates include Tegray Scales, Darius Leonard, Jason Cabinda, Jack Cichy, Chris Worley, Davin Bellamy, Garret Dooley, Ulysses Gilbert.

Where would you project Malik Jefferson to fall? (LB - Texas)

It really depends upon the 40 time. I could see him at #40 if he runs a 4.65. Or, if he runs over 4.7 the bottom could fall out and we are talking about a Day 3 prospect. ILBs are not so highly sought after unless they show speed under 4.5 with the production on film. That's why I have Roquan Smith ranked so highly. Trumaine Edmunds is bigger and I am waiting to see if he is a 4.6 or a 4.8 guy.

I know that this is a Texans board. The teams both have many of the same needs. Of course Houston does not have a pick until the 3rd round. I will discuss a similar strategy tailored to the Texans.

I led Roy in the Colts' direction with this discussion for the very reason that the Texans don't draft until the 3rd round so we will miss out on roughly 70 players before we even step to the podium.
