Default Anyone catch the Rockets blasting off?

i know it's preseason, i wouldn't have cared one single bit if they lost but a couple of good things from last night:

-carl landry is a player. that jump shot is pretty and it's got a little range.
-ron artest is a player x 2.
-aaron brooks would be starting if he would make better decisions with the ball. he always seems nervous or something...

I watched a little bit of it. You could see the potential of Adelman's offense, but it's not there. They created several opportunities for layups, but they were just out of sync enough to not be able to finish.

Aaron Brooks could easily develop into a good point gaurd for us, but I've never understood why everyone is so down on Alston. He could definitely be upgraded, and probably should be, but he doesn't get enough credit for the way he runs our offense. The offense is a lot smoother when he is on point compared to anyone else we stick in there. I know his shooting is erratic, but he's a decent defender most of the time. Right now he is by far the best option available. I think/hope Brooks steps up enough to surpass him, but until someone does that Skip is our point gaurd.

I didn't mean that as a slight to Alston. He is what he is, a ball-handler, a few 3's, the terrible teardrop, and all heart on defense. Plus he's in line with the new look rockets of tougher players, Alston won't backdown from anyone.

If we could put Alston's mind in Brooks' body he would be the best point we've had since...I can remember.

It was just more a general statement than a response to you. I've had several rocket conversations the last few weeks and have had to listen to how Alston is worst point gaurd in the league.

ah, yea a lot of people really hate on Alston. I did for a while but i realize he's kept his job because nobody else on the rockets is better. As far as league-wide comparisons, sure he's not even close to Chris Paul, Deron Williams and the like but he's got great handles, a good decision maker with ball setting up the offense, pretty tenacious attitude on defense even if he's getting worked which I see as a sign of a true competitor. Really his big downfall is shooting, seeing as how we've got Yao, Artest, McGrady, Barry, I guess Landry is going to light it up this year, so on I think he'll fit in just fine.

Aaron Brooks speed and good handles get him into great positions to make plays but that's where his limitations currently sit.

yeah, I watched most of first two preseason games, Scola was good tonight. optimistic about a long run into playoffs, maybe championship this year.

I think Alston is okay, but not in top tier of point guards who other teams worry about. But really contributed last year, so hate to complain. I am not seeing Brooks develop as quick as I hoped. Tonight I guess it was just evaluation , fourth period saw a lot of three guards at same time, didn't look to smooth.

you know, there was a time when chuck-wagon hayes started. a time when figuring out who the third best player was would've required a caculator and some time. now it's like, who's going to be the 9th/10th guys in the rotations?

luther head is truly awful. i hope von wafer makes it over head.

only saw a minute or two of the game last night. The only observation I have is Ron Artest has a really nice porn-stash. I never noticed that before.

indeed. i didn't see the beginning of the last game so i was wondering if anybody could tell me how artest/yao played with mcgrady too?

i'll bet mcgrady has a load of his shoulders, which is good because he can barely stand as it is. if he doesn't feel like he has to score every point in the game i think he'll be just fine.

i did, however, see that luther head continues his "suck across america" campaign. more like cam-pain. he has poor handles, atrocious passes and a hell of a 3 point shot. CUT!

I was hoping we could sucker someone into trading a second round draft pick or backup center for Luther. it is nice to have plenty of options beyond Yao and McGrady finally.

what's more is that we've traded novak who i thought had a pretty similar skill set: only good standing at the 3.

i didn't see last night's game but if luther head played, i'll bet he was awful again. his passes are about as good as a bad high school teams'.

I didn't even realize Von Wafer was brought in to camp. Shows how much time i've had as of late. Anyway, I didn't get to see much of him in college, but we played against him in high school. He went to Heritage christian in Cleveland, tx, a 1A school of 31 students that got kicked out of tapps for winning their state championship in 02 by 100 points. Cedrick Hensley was on that team to, the kid that scored 100 points in a game on the same night that, shoot, who was it? Melo? did. That's neither here nor there. Kid's an athlete. He jumped clear over, and i mean as if he were a rack of balls in the slam dunk contest, our 6'1" point guard to catch an alley-oop. sickest play I've ever seen, and I saw about 40 games of willowridge's glory years. Of course, we've had pure athletes before (gerald green) and how did that turn out?

I am so excited about the depth on this team. When was the last time we were legitimately 3 deep at any one position, much less the power forward? Artest is fitting in great, McGrady looks super comfortable knowing that he's not going to have to pour in 40 a night to get a W, and with the depth on this team, with all its scoring threats, we should see a lot of blowout wins, which means limited minutes for our porcelin twins in T-Mac and Yao. If we can keep them healthy, we're the team to beat out west, for sure.

strawberry impressed too. i love defensive guys but he can slash and score too. guess what? both strawberry and wafer are gunning for the backup 2 spots...where luther head currently sucks. both guys are also bigger than head. wafer shot the lights out, that last 3 was cold as ice. brooks was all over the court too.

i really don't want luther head hahahaha....

anyway, you're totally right SBB, the glassman and oww should both be healthy this year. they gave yao off last night too. matt bullard said mcgrady should pony up to the next two games to get in shape because he's a little overweight. burn.

yeah, 3-0 is a good start to regular season, although looked a little sloppy against Grizlies and Thunder. Their fourth quarter finishes are looking good. deep bench is nice to see. Next three with Boston, New Orleans, Lakers should be a challenge.
