Default Official Texans @ Jaguars Game Thread, 10/9/2022

The Texans head over to Jacksonville this Sunday to play the Jags in an early game on CBS. The Jags are coming off a 29-21 road loss to Eagles, the Texans are coming off a 34-24 home loss to the Chargers. The Jags easily dispatched the Chargers 38-10 in Week 3 so they should have no problem with the Texans, right? Eh, it doesn't always work that way....

Jags QB Trevor Lawrence is having a very good sophomore season going 88/134, 946 yards, 7.1 avg., 8 TDs, 2 INTs with a 99.9 rating. James Robinson is the main RB with 259 yards and Travis Etienne provides backup (144 yards). Lawrence's goto receivers are WRs Christian Kirk (327 yards), Zay Jones (173 yards), Marvin Jones Jr. (104 yards) and TE Evan Engram (99 yards). The Jag's defense is rated 16th vs. the pass and 8th vs. the run.

The Texans need to find chemistry and find it fast if they hope to walk away with a W. If they are gonna stick with Davis Mills at QB, then he needs help - better blocking, better running and plays sent in where he can excel. They will need to play a clean game and have a few breaks go their way to have any chance of winning.

Jonathan Greenard is not headed to Duval, will be out for the game due to his ankle. Tried to go in practice this week, but evidently just couldn't push it.

Punt-fest so far. Both teams are having trouble moving the ball. Etienne of the Jags had a couple of nice runs.

Nico Collins now has a couple of catches for 36 yards.

---------------------------------------------------------

Johnston on for his 3rd punt.

5:41 left in the 1st qtr.

A big nothing for the 3rd qtr.

Texans have the ball at their 26 with 9:59 left in the game.

Still tied at 6.

Will the Texans score in the 4th quarter?

Pierce runs it in from 1 yard out. Terrific run by Pierce to set up the 1st and goal.

Texans 13, Jags 6

3:11 left in the game.

I was thinking how are the Texans going to blow this? But they didn't.

Final score:

Texans 13, Jags 6

------------------------------------------------------

It wasn't pretty. Texans at 1-3-1 and no longer winless.

Up next is the bye then out to Vegas to play the Raiders.

Happy for Lovie.

That beast mode run from Pierce to set up the touchdown was amazing. I think at least nine different Jaguars touched him in pursuit at some point.

I kinda figured the Jaguars were going to be better than they were. Maybe the Texans defense is better than I think it is?

Well, zero sacks is concerning. Not much in the pass rush dept. Again, a couple of rookies, Pitre (9) and Stingley (7) led the team in tackles. Kirksey also with 7.

The Jags rushed for 136, 5.2 avg. People point at the linebackers as a weak spot. KGH is not having the year he had last year (hurt?). That said, the rush defense is no longer last in the league (29th).

But the young secondary looks good/promising. Stingley needs to stay healthy....

I see where the Texans have added one Mario Addison. #97 and listed as a DL but it seems he's a (aging) pass rusher. 12 years in the league. Been with 6 different clubs but spent 7 years with Carolina where he put up his best stats. 57½ sacks over the course of his career. Last two years with Buffalo where he sacked 12 over those two years. 35 years old, 6'3", 260 lbs. Went to school at Troy. Maybe he's got a few sacks left in the tank.....

He played in the Jags game but only had one assisted tackle.
