Default Tony Bergstrom released

@TexansCap says this release will initially give the Texans a savings of $2.8m but will eventually be around $2.3m when the dust settles.

He also says the Texans are in the top 5 in cap space available now.

So...my question is this....since they already had a lot of space available (definitely enough for the draft), are they planning something pre-draft and needed the space to do it? Why cut him now? Why not wait and see who you get in a couple of weeks first?

I guess it could just be a natural reaction to hypothetical good news about Nick Martin's health?

My friend w/the Texans answered my question. Expect to see some extensions in the near future. He won't say who exactly...

Hopkins & Clowney would be my best guess

Yeah, it would be nice to get ahead of the keep your own good players curve finally.

Saw this table on draft pick retention past 5 years

Five-year draft breakdown
............... 2012.. 2013 2014 2015 2016
Total picks 8 .... 9 10 7 6
Starters ......1 ... 1 5 2 4
Backups..... 0 1 3 4 2
Other teams.5 .... 1 1 1 0
Out of league.2 ... 6 1 0 0
