Default Pre-draft 2021 Roster Transactions

I think most here know about these but the Texans have been making some moves:

Quote:
02/26 The Houston Texans released the following players: Duke Johnson and Nick Martin.

02/23 The Houston Texans released the following player: Senio Kelemente. The Houston Texans waived the following player: Peter Kalambayi.
I think they got rid of the wrong Johnson. Martin, eh, might not be missed. Bad (OB) contract.

No Watson, no Watt, no Martin, no Duke Johnson. Your 2021 Texans are shaping up to be an expansion franchise.

Caserio could win brownie points with the fans if he gets a lucrative haul for Watson....

03/08 The Houston Texans signed the following free agent: Justin Britt.

03/02 The Houston Texans waived the following player: Mark Fields II. The Houston Texans released the following player: Brandon Williams.

03/01 The Houston Texans signed the following three players to contract extensions: Cornell Armstrong, Dontrell Hilliard and Buddy Howell. The Houston Texans released the following player: Josh McCown.
Also, heard RB Mark Ingraham is now a Texan....

Lots of moves... for mostly back-end roster players and special teamers looking for an opportunity. Sadly necessary since depth is a major issue, and a switch in defensive schemes to Lovie Smith's Tampa 2 means all new personnel is needed (ugh ugh ugh). In sum, these transactions to me mostly represent the GM and coaches attempting to re-build the locker room culture.

So yes, many of these guys are going to be "Easterby types", which doesn't sound great but the reality is that departures of team leaders like Watt, McKinney, etc. leaves a power void. It's important that the Texans do have the right guys in place to bring along the young players. Several of these players have strong connections to not only Easterby/Caserio, but also David Culley, Pep Hamilton, James Campen and others.

More #Texans moves: They are releasing veteran P Bryan Anger, source said, who was due to make $2.5M in 2021.

Former Titans and Chargers CB Desmond King to the Texans on a one-year, $3.5 million deal, per @DrewJRosenhaus

This might be the best signing yet. Was meh with the Titans but really good before that with the Chargers. Probably a good fit for the zone stuff that Lovie will likely employ.

A couple WRs added... Donte Moncrief (1-yr $2M) and former Bengal Alex Erickson (1-yr). Moncrief was a 2014 3rd rounder for the Colts and a journeyman since, most recently with, you guessed it, the Patriots.

In other WR news, Will Fuller signed a 1-yr deal with the Dolphins for mostly all signing bonus to minimize the Game 1 paycheck he will lose due to the PED suspension this fall.

Erickson's deal is for $1.2M, of which part of his base along with his bonus make up to $500k guaranteed.

New Texans punter Cam Johnston gets a three-year, $8 million contract, $1 million signing bonus, per a league source

Thought the Texans might go for a replacement level punter after the release of Anger, but this is a decent signing.

Trade terms: Bengals traded QB Ryan Finley and a 7th-round pick to the Texans for the 6th-round pick that they had from the Dolphins, per source.
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/sta...25450075820035

I kinda like this deal. The Bengals were about to release Finley and instead they move up about 30 picks and send him to the Texans. Not entirely sure why the Bengals wanted to release Finley... of course he's not Joe Montana, but this is a good developmental backup QB. A 4th rounder in 2019, some scramble abilities and poise in the pocket. Not prototypical arm strength, which is kinda overrated to me when you have someone with this profile.

None of these three dozen or so transactions are going to set the Texans on a deep playoff run in 2021, but dang it seems like Caserio is more than capable of building out the back half of a roster.

Interesting point...it would result in a big cap hit if they trade him but Tunsil for less than $1 million next year is VERY attractive...especially to a contender like KC.

Most believe tackle trade discussions heat up come Draft. Teams that miss on targets pivot to trades. Orlando Brown Jr the big name. #Texans just restructured Tunsil. Imagine HOU goes into complete rebuild. Could you imagine the trade value of Tunsil at $990K Cap hit in 2021?

Was thinking the exact same re: Tunsil's 2021 base.

With the Marcus Cannon trade taken into consideration here, the puzzle pieces fit better with Tytus Howard moving to LT and Cannon to RT versus one of them moving to guard with Tunsil still at LT.

If the goal is to start over and rebuild, then getting a load of draft capital from Tunsil would go a long way. Plus, pass protection has been a strength of Howard's and doesn't seem like a stretch at all that he could handle the transition.

And regardless of how the Deshaun Watson situation (situations?) is resolved, this is a rebuild. Inevitable with the departure of Bill O'Brien and the exodus and aging of talent over the last two seasons.
