Default It's Official: Watson agrees to 4-yr extension

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/d...fl-per-report/

Quote:
Watson will receive a $27 million signing bonus and the total value of the four-year deal will be approximately $160 million, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Including his 2021 salary under the fifth-year option, Watson is set to make $177.54 million with nearly $111 million in guarantees over the next five years.
Nice knowing you, J.J....

Happy this is done, removes a potential distraction for Watson and the team, although I doubt it would have been a big one for either.

Some fair comparisons to be made between this extension and the one Patrick Mahomes received this offseason. I like that Watson's is shorter. I'm honestly struggling to feel comfortable committing to guaranteed money for 8-10 years out for a player with ACL tears on both knees. Watson has certainly proven he's fine on both so far, but it's still a risk.

Anyway, congrats to Watson and congrats to the Texans, too. Having Watson will always keep them in playoff contention, and as a fan, he is a lot of fun to watch.

I love this deal for Deshaun.

He gets paid a ridiculous amount of money, and he keeps the clock ticking for these guys to fix the team. And when they don't he can pick a contender who just needs a QB in 4 years.
