Default Offical Texans vs. Titans Game Thread, 1/9/2022

The 11-5 Tennessee Titans visit NRG this Sunday to take on the 4-12 Houston Texans in an early game on Sunday. The Texans are coming off a 23-7 road loss to the 49ers, the Titans are coming off a 34-3 home win over the Dolphins. The Texans won the first meeting 22-13 between the two back in Week 11.

Titan's QB Ryan Tannehill is not really having a stellar year: 3447 yards, 66.9% completion, 17 TDs, 14 INTs, 86.3 rating. The Titans lean on their running game a lot with ex-Texan D'Onta Foreman (497 yds, 4.4 avg.) getting most of the carries lately although the injured Derrick Henry is expected to get off IR very soon. Top receiver is AJ Brown (801 yards, 13.6 avg.). The Titan defense is 22nd vs. the pass and 2nd vs. the run (yds/game). The Texans have the worst rushing attack in the league, therefore they should pass and pass often.

The Titans have incentive to win this one because they could lock up #1 seed in the AFC playoffs. They probably have revenge on their minds, too because of the shocking home loss to the Texans earlier in the year. (The Texans could do no wrong that day - the Titans committed 5 turnovers to 0 for the Texans). Hard to find motivation with the Texans at this point. The Titans are 10-6 ATS, the Texans are 7-9 ATS. I've got it:

Titans 32, Texans 10

A 17th game. Fitting that the most unwatchable season in franchise history is now also the longest.

A little interested though in how Tannehill attacks the defense, at least before any score gets out of hand. Iirc, the Texans had four picks on Tannehill in the first meeting, which was one of the most surprising final scores in the entire league this season.

Foreman runs it in from 1 yard out but called back because of illegal substitution on the Titans.

Firkser wide open for the 5 yard TD pass for the Titans.

Titans 7, Texans 0

7:40 left in the half.

14 yard TD pass to AJ Brown goes for a Titan TD.

Titans 14, Texans 0

1:34 left in the half.

---------------------------------------------------

Titans run defense acting like the #2 rushing defense that they are. Texans just 10 yards rushing on 9 carries.

Mills a little off today - 6/12, 57 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT.
