Default Official Texans @ 49ers Game Thread, 1/2/2022

The 4-11 Houston Texans head out to San Francisco this Sunday to play the 8-7 49ers in an afternoon game. The Texans are coming off a 41-29 home win over the Chargers, the 49ers are coming off a 20-17 road loss to the Titans on the last TNF game. They have a little extra prep time.

49'er QB Jimmy Garoppolo is nursing a sore thumb but will probably play. If he can't go or gets injured, QB duties fall to Trey Lance a rookie from North Dakota St. Garoppolo has thrown for 3494 yards, 8.5 avg, 253.1 yds/game, 19 TDs, 10 INTs with a 99.6 rating. Top RB for the 49'ers is Elijah Mitchell (759 yds, 4.6 avg.). Top WR is Deebo Samuel with 1247 yards, 17.8 avg. TE George Kittle is second on the list with 871 yards, 13.4 avg. The 49'er defense is 7th in the league vs. the pass and 11th vs. the run (yds/game).

Both teams are 7-8 ATS. It will be interesting to see if the Texans can keep their mojo going against a pretty good defense on the road. In the meantime, I say:

49ers 31, Texans 12

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TV = CBS (channel 11 local), 3:05 pm CST, Sunday, 1/2/2022

Announcers = Greg Gumbel, Adam Archuleta

The line = 49ers by 12½ to 14½

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Sunday viewing in the Houston area:

FOX (early) = LA Rams @ Baltimore, Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen

FOX (late) = Arizona @ Dallas, Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime time:

SNF = Minnesota @ Green Bay (NBC)

MNF = Cleveland @ Pittsburgh (ESPN)

No Thursday Night Football this week.

Here you are again Arky smack-dab in the middle of the holidays, the hardest working man on Houston Texans websites anywhere.
Appreciate you man, and have a Happy NY as we wait for the tail-end of the weekend to see if our Texans can some how produce another surprise as they've atleast made the end of this season more interesting than most
of us thought possible.

Allow me to thank Entergy for not one but two outages today, the last coming at 3:03, 2 minutes before kickoff and lasting two hours.

49ers lead 10-7 with 1:35 left in the 3rd qtr.

Texans TD came on an 8 yard pass to Cooks.

49ers have a 37 yd FG by Gould and an 8 yard TD pass from Trey Lance to Elijah Mitchell.

Fairbairn misses from 46 on what could have tied the game.

Still:

Gould adds a 36 yarder.

49ers 23, Texans 7

1:12 left in the game.

All those that had Texans +13½ to +15 just got wiped out.

Final score:

49ers 23, Texans 7

---------------------------------------------------

Texans with no 2nd half points.

Mills looked under pressure a lot from what I saw. Also, some other commenters suggest the refereeing was less than top notch today....

Next up is the Titans at home in the season finale. Titans favored by 9½ to 10.

Mentioned this on the twitter, but LT Geron Christian has been rather solid. He was a waiver claim in May from the WFT, a former 3rd round pick in 2018.

A free agent after the season, he's going to have some tape that could interest other teams. Kinda hope the Texans keep him if the money is right given his age.

I think there are several players that fall in this category. Desmond King, Maliek Collins, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Neville Hewitt, Tremon Smith, Tavierre Thomas - they all deserve a 2nd look/2nd contract....
