Default Official 2020 NFL Draft - Round 2 & 3 Thread

Made it through the first round without Bill O'Brien donating any more value via trades. Whew. On to day 2.

Texans scheduled to pick at #40 an #90 in the second and third rounds, respectively. Given all the defensive talent that slipped past #32, the team seems to be sitting in a pretty good spot, thereby possibly increasing the chances they are able to trade down in the second.

Just curious...anyone know what happened to Roy? I always enjoyed his list when I was just a lurker...

IIRC Roy was in the medical profession, he might be a little busy. Hope he's safe, and I hope our little extended family here are all safe.

Colts just traded up behind us. Taking J. Taylor RB from Wisconsin. He's a bruiser.

I wonder what O'Brien thinks is J.J. Watt's draft value?

Blacklock; Grade A-

Crazy first-step quickness. True penetrating DT. Some hand use but must improve there and in the strength department. Much-needed addition on the interior of the defensive line. (Chris Trapasso)

Agreed, but I kinda wonder too if Blacklock is Watt's succession plan.

Regardless, I love this pick. I seem to remember back when I really loved Vince Wilfork in the draft that Bill Parcells had a saying about loving those big 300+lb guys with supreme athleticism that defies their size. You can find good interior D-linemen late in the draft and even as UDFAs, but I don't mind using a premium pick on one like this. A great DL really makes for a great defense; build it from the ball and out.

Texans don't select until #90. It will be interesting if Zach Baun and Terrell Lewis are still there.

Josh Jones might be tempting at 90...he and Howard could take up the right side of the OL.

Nevermind...he didn't last as expected

Texans on the clock. No idea what they are looking for, hopefully a CB or a RB.

Pick is Florida edge rusher Jonathan Greenard.

Draft Scouting Report:

Rating: 83

Strengths:

Chiseled with NFL defensive end size
High-end burst off the snap
Fluidity to win to the inside
Sustains speed around the edge
Decent arsenal of pass-rushing moves

Weaknesses:

Spin move needs work
Rare moments of low motor
At times pass-rush moves seem predetermined

Draft Grade: A

Height: 6-3, Weight: 263

Greenard has a chiseled NFL body with first-round flashes. Bend, phenomenal hand work. Just inconsistent. Nice power and good motor. Texans needed a natural rusher. (Chris Trapasso)

From John McClain:
Texans had a deal with Detroit for the 90th pick but Lions backed out at last instant and Bill O’Brien was furious. You could tell by his reaction on TV. They selected OLB Jonathan Greenard with their pick.
