Default Official Texans vs. Eagles Game Thread, 11/3/2022

The undefeated 7-0 Philadelphia Eagles come to town to take on the 1-5-1 Texans on Thursday Night Football - the Texans only prime time game all year. The Eagles are coming off a 35-13 home win over the Steelers, the Texans are coming off a 17-10 home loss to the Titans.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has been very good this year - 142/212, 67% completion, 1799 yards, 257 yds/game, 10 TDs, 2 INTs, 105.1 rating. RB Miles Sanders (563 yards) and Hurts himself (303 yards) make up most of the rushing attack. The Eagles leading receivers are WR AJ Brown (659, 16.9 avg), TE Dallas Goedert (421 yards, 13.2 avg.) and WR DeVonta Smith (420 yards, 11.1 avg.). The Eagle defense is rated 2nd in the league vs. the pass (4.8 yds/att) and 29th vs. the run (5.2 ypc).

Normally, it's common for a team (Texans) that was so dominated by another team (Titans) to come right back the next week and be more focused. With the Texans, I'm not sure that will happen. Perhaps Dameon Pierce could have a good game as the Eagles don't seem to play the run all that well. Davis Mills will have to perform better than he did against the Titans if they have any hope of getting the passing game going. On paper, this has Eagles blowout written all over it. Surprise me, Texans.

Tragic that the World Series rainout for the originally scheduled time for Game 3 now means that the Texans TNF game will be up against the postponed Game 5.

Proving the Texans aren't totally unaware and unsympathetic, the concourse TVs in the stadium will be airing the baseball game tonight. Still, unfortunate for the Texans and fans of both teams. Given how good the Eagles have been thus far into the season though, it might be a blessing that fewer eyeballs nationally are subjected to this team?

Tonight also marks the gameday debut of the red helmets. Curious to see how those look on TV.

As for another sideshow... Brandin Cooks was NOT traded at the deadline this week and has not really participated in practices. No idea how this plays out, but not a great look for either the team or player. With Nico Collins already ruled out, the passing game will be under even greater duress to perform.

EDIT: ...and Cooks is now sitting out the game tonight.

Well, I used to have PIP. I hardly ever use it and not sure where I lost it - perhaps with the new receiver I got a few years ago.

So, Plan B is put the TV on the baseball game and watch the Texans on computer.

and record both.

Texans take the opening kickoff and drive down the field. Nice pass to Dorsett and some nice runs by Pierce. 2 yard pass to Quitoriano gets the TD.

Texans 7, Eagles 0

9:37 left in the 1st qtr.

I tried Amazon Prime on my laptop and it was choppy as hell. I just got AT&T Fiber, so I'm thinking that's not the issue. On my phone, the game video is smooth.

An early TD reception for TE Quitoriano. Mills 4-4 on the drive, Pierce 4-23 on the ground.

Texans 7-0 9:37 1st qtr.

Uniform Watch:

The red helmets are cool. The red jerseys are awesome.
I don't like them together though.

This Texans game is moving so quickly. Might be done by the 6th inning.

Not sure why anyone would do anything other than handoffs agains this defense.

Mills now 8-9, 90 Yd, 2TDs
Pierce 13-88

Pretty nice start considering Nico and Cooks aren't in uniform.

Tie game nearly halftime.

Hilarious the Texans chose to play their best 30 minutes of football in a game no one is watching.

Mills QBR is 147.9 against the 7-0 Eagles... When he played well against the Raiders, well it was the Raiders. Then the Titans just flattened the offense. Is Mills still developing or is he destined to be a high functioning career backup?
