Default Official Texans vs. Jaguars Game Thread, 9/12/2021

The Texans will host Jacksonville in the 2021 season opener at noon Sunday on CBS. For the Texans, you still need a scorecard to tell who's who. Jacksonville is interesting because they will probably start rookie draft pick QB Trevor Lawrence. (side note: Packers @ Saints will be played in Jacksonville while the Jags are in Houston - hurricane, yada, yada).

I have no idea how this one will turn out but it would be nice if the Texans can keep pressure on the rookie QB. Minus a few series vs. the Bucs, the Texan defense was not too bad in the preseason - let's see how they do in the real games.

Just a guess but I get Jags 24, Texans 22.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

TV = CBS (channel 11 local), noon CST, Sunday, 9/12/2021

Announcers = Greg Gumbel, Adam Archuleta

The line = Jags by 3

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Sunday viewing in the Houston area:

FOX (early) = Philadelphia @ Atlanta, Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen

FOX (late) = Green Bay @ New Orleans (in Jacksonville), Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

CBS (late) = Cleveland @ Kansas City, Jim Nantz, Tony Romo

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime time:

TNF = Dallas @ Tampa Bay (NBC)

SNF = Chicago @ LA Rams (NBC)

MNF = Baltimore @ Las Vegas (ESPN/ABC)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Astros have an off day which works out well for tonight's Cowboys @ Tampa Bay game.

The Dallas Winbags, the only football team in the entire state of Texas out of contention longer than the Houston Texans, played TB12 & the Bucs real tough last night and gotta hand it to the team from North Texas for putting
up a good fight. Of course they won the all important turnover battel which was due in some part to their own efforts.
I'm just real happy the NFL season is back and I look forward to what looks to be some really interesting matchups Sunday afternoon.
Jags favored by three which obviously implies the Texans should be in the game.

You can't stop the Texans - you can only hope to contain them.

Ingram runs one in from 1 yard.

J Slye substituting for Fairbairn today. Extra point good.

Texans 7, Jags 0

6:39 left in the 1st qtr.

Have to be satisfied with the start of Tyrod Taylor. After a near INT on his first attempt, he has shown some good poise and pocket mobility, decent zip on his throws.

Mark Ingram is running downhill with authority. Tytus and Tunsil on the left side are taking care of some bidness.

Now, 2nd and goal from the 7 yard line at the 2 minute warning.

Texans have to settle for a Slye 26 yard FG.

Texans 20, Jags 7

59 seconds left in the half.

Jags add another TD - 5 yard pass to Marvin Jones Jr. from Lawrence with just 5 seconds left in the game.

Final Score:

Texans 37, Jags 21

-----------------------------------------------

Whew. Well, at least the Texans won't be the first 0-17 team - not this year....

-----------------------------------------------

Some good, some bad but mostly good. Competition goes up a notch next week on the road @ Cleveland. The Browns are an early 2 TD favorite over the Texans.

Now atleast we know that as of the first weekend of the season our Texans aren't the worst team in the NFL.
Good job Arky thanks for your game day report.

It's only one game but there is noticeable difference about these current Texans. This team just seems different from the Bill O'Brien teams that have taken the field the last few years.

The coaching was good. Tim Kelly called a good game. Plays that OB would call that would make everyone groan were absent. I had no idea what they would do next - that's a good thing. No turnovers.

I think one part of it is the change in attitude - Caserio seems to have found a good crop of hungry free agents that want to impress and it seems to have rubbed off on the regulars. Hell, even Vernon Hargreaves looked good. That effort was mostly there until it started fading towards the end of the 4th quarter.

Yes, it was the Jags but I can't wait to see what happens next week in Cleveland. Can they keep it going? I'm all over the Texans at +12½ in this game.

There will be a relatively quick turn around following the game in Cleveland with the Carolina Panthers coming to town for a Thursday Night Football matchup.
