Default Texans Sign TE Darren Fells

Not sure we need a whole thread on this, but here we go.

TE Darren Fells, formerly of the Browns, signed a 1 year contract, $1.5 million. Includes $900k base, $100k sign bonus, and per games active bonuses up to another $500k.

Fells is one of those basketball playing-TEs, having not played college football. He'll be 33 this season. Known for being a decent blocker. Caught 11 of 12 targets in 2018 for 117 yards and 3 TDs.

He seems more like training camp fodder. Our two TEs from last year's draft are both adequate - neither are gamebreakers but neither is Fells. He provides a security blanket in case one gets injured. It would be cool if we had a TE that threatened the deep middle but we haven't had one since Billy Miller who couldn't block.

Owen Daniels was also once a receiving threat... not sure I would need to go all the way back to the glory days of Billy Miller.

I knew I was forgetting someone! Didn't OD get to a Pro Bowl once? The two guys we drafted last year are ok. They're not special but they seem to be able to get beyond the sticks and hold onto a pass. Unless you have a Kelce or a Gronk, that's all you need.
