Default Who could we draft with that new second-rounder?

Trying to read Bill O'Brien's mind is like going for it on 4th down on your own end of the field with a 24-point lead.

But let's pretend there's somebody rational in control, who might the Texans draft with that early second-rounder they acquired for D-Hop? These won't be the best guys at their positions (if they were, they'd be first-rounders) but these might be value picks at positions of need.

From other sources, the most likely draft needs for the Texans are at WR and CB. If you think David Johnson is a washed up waste of cap space, a bell-cow at RB isn't a bad idea either. So who might fall to #40?

Wide receivers...

* Tee Higgins - Clemson alum (like Watson) with similar ball skills as D-Hop but not as flashy. Ran slow 40 time at combine and could fall if there's no chance to time him again.

* Justin Jefferson - LSU receiver who starred in semi-final against Oklahoma. Fluid receiver who lacks top hands but is otherwise a full package. Hard to assess when you're in the offense LSU had with Burrow and all those weapons.

* Laviska Shenault - Colorado receiver who has what NFL scouts look for but didn't produce in lethargic CU offense. Another guy who may fall out of the first round.

* Brandon Aiyuk - Arizona St. wideout who blossomed in senior year.

* Denzel Mims - Came out as a 4th-round prospect who dazzled at the Senior Bowl and the combine. May shine with a better QB than he had at Baylor.

* Jalen Raegor - TCU wideout has similar skill set to Fuller. If the Texans just want another deep threat, this guy would be the pick.

Cornerbacks...

* Trevon Diggs - All the corners in this group are the same approximate height and weight. Diggs has that Bama pedigree and was matched against top SEC receivers numerous weeks. Safe pick but then so was Kareem Jackson.

* A.J. Terrell - Another Clemson kid who was their top corner but his speed was a little disappointing at the combine.

* Jeff Gladney - TCU corner who is a tad shorter (5-10) than most of the others.

* Noah Igbinoghene - Auburn product who also had to deal with SEC wideouts every week.

* Bryce Hall - Virginia senior who got good reviews at the combine.

* Jason Johnson - Utah cornerback whose stock has slipped a little but some still believe he has first-round talent.

Running backs...

* Jonathon Taylor - Wisconsin stud who barrels through holes without a lot of wiggle but has a burst. Top of this class.

* D'Andre Swift - Georgia tailback who had some injury history but productive when played. Only 5-8 but still weighs in the 210 range.

* J.K. Dobbins - Ohio State junior with speed and hands.

* Cam Akers - Overlooked due to Florida State's poor season but has been impressive since season's end.

Others in the neighborhood...

Austin Jackson (USC) and Ezra Cleveland (Boise St) at offensive tackle.

Patrick Queen (LSU) and Zack Baun (Wisconsin) at inside LB.

Julian Okwara (ND), Terrell Lewis (Alabama) and Curtis Weaver (Boise St.) as edge rushers.

So...if you're the one on the clock, which of these guys are you hoping falls to you?

Default 2nd Rounder

Given all the recent WR additions to the Texans, I would draft a DE 5 tech, hopefully either Marlon Davidson or AJ Epenesa are still available.

If not take the best corner or OL available.

I’d be surprised, but not disappointed, if they took the best receiver on the board.

Before the trade for U.R. Cooks, Fanspeak did their own mock draft which they went to print. In it, three of the first four picks by the Texans were WRs and the fourth was an OT (Chief Winebago or whatever his name is from Auburn).

I was going to publish a thread but the more I read it, the more useless it was.
