Default Offical Texans vs. Titans Game Thread, 1/9/2022

The 11-5 Tennessee Titans visit NRG this Sunday to take on the 4-12 Houston Texans in an early game on Sunday. The Texans are coming off a 23-7 road loss to the 49ers, the Titans are coming off a 34-3 home win over the Dolphins. The Texans won the first meeting 22-13 between the two back in Week 11.

Titan's QB Ryan Tannehill is not really having a stellar year: 3447 yards, 66.9% completion, 17 TDs, 14 INTs, 86.3 rating. The Titans lean on their running game a lot with ex-Texan D'Onta Foreman (497 yds, 4.4 avg.) getting most of the carries lately although the injured Derrick Henry is expected to get off IR very soon. Top receiver is AJ Brown (801 yards, 13.6 avg.). The Titan defense is 22nd vs. the pass and 2nd vs. the run (yds/game). The Texans have the worst rushing attack in the league, therefore they should pass and pass often.

The Titans have incentive to win this one because they could lock up #1 seed in the AFC playoffs. They probably have revenge on their minds, too because of the shocking home loss to the Texans earlier in the year. (The Texans could do no wrong that day - the Titans committed 5 turnovers to 0 for the Texans). Hard to find motivation with the Texans at this point. The Titans are 10-6 ATS, the Texans are 7-9 ATS. I've got it:

Titans 32, Texans 10

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TV = CBS (channel 11 local), noon CST, Sunday, 1/9/2022

A 17th game. Fitting that the most unwatchable season in franchise history is now also the longest.

A little interested though in how Tannehill attacks the defense, at least before any score gets out of hand. Iirc, the Texans had four picks on Tannehill in the first meeting, which was one of the most surprising final scores in the entire league this season.

14 yard TD pass to AJ Brown goes for a Titan TD.

Titans 14, Texans 0

1:34 left in the half.

---------------------------------------------------

Titans run defense acting like the #2 rushing defense that they are. Texans just 10 yards rushing on 9 carries.

Mills a little off today - 6/12, 57 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT.

Texans going for two.....

Pass to Amendola good for the two point conversion.

Texans really upping the production in the 2nd half:

Texans can't get the stop. Titans run out the clock.

Final score:

Titans 28, Texans 25

--------------------------------------------------

Amendola = 113 yards, 7 catches, 2 TDs

Mills looked good in the 2nd half. No problem with him being the starting QB next year....

Jags beat the Colts 26-11. Wow. Tough to be a Colts fan right now.... (Texan fans have had it tough all year.....).

--------------------------------------------

Steelers and Ravens playing in OT for the last Wild Card spot...

You did a great job again this year Arky.
Have an enjoyable offseason, but probably see you for the Draft in April if not sooner.

Thanks, man. I think there is still a few readers running around this place....

Might be some Texan news this week. Should be some moves between now and the draft.....

Texans should have #3 pick in the draft and if they find a home for Watson, there may be an avalanche of picks...

Speaking at what appears to be a campaign or fundraising event, the girl asks Crenshaw what he meant when he said the following while promoting his book on a podcast:

“The important thing here is that we have societal hero archetypes that we look up to. Jesus is a hero archetype, Superman is a hero archetype. Real characters too, you know, I put, I could name a thousand. You know, Rosa Parks, Ronald Reagan, all of these people embody certain attributes that the American people think ‘this is good’.”

It would be a constructive experience if the Congressman could spend some time with Cal and the preacher to explain to them about Jesus as he did with the little girl and also inform them that Santa Clause is a mythical character because the Texans' ownership has got some growin up to do when it comes to making grown-up decisions for our NFL franchise.
Former Navy Seal Congressman Crenshaw is a real American hero who's to my knowledge never coached in the NFL or college either so his discusssion with Cal and Preacher could also serve as an interview for the open HC position.

I’d never thought of Crenshaw as head coaching material but I guess we should keep an eye on him.

At this point I barely care about the stupid things the Texans do. I sure don't care enough to get mad about the stupid things they might do.
