Default Official Texans @ 49ers Fake Game Thread, 8/14/2016

The preseason kicks into high gear tonight with 6 games on the slate. NFLN will feature the New Orleans Saints vs. the New England Patriots @ 6:30 pm CST.

Meanwhile, the Texans are off to San Francisco to play in a Sunday game vs. the 49'ers. The game on Sunday is the only NFL game that day and will be shown @ 6 pm CST on NFLN (and probably as well on local Channel 13).

Degens would be interested to know the 49'ers are currently a 3 pt. favorite..... (take the Texans and the pts.)

I don't think there's been a year where there were SO MANY things to look for...I will be excited to see ALL four quarters. So much talent to look out for.

Yep, what with the Olympics and the Astros still going for it, no shortage of must-see sports available right now....

I'd like to know what sort of lunatic gambles on preseason football. I guess it's the same crowd that wagers on spring training baseball.

Me, I'm sticking with the olympic race walking and synchronized swimming.

Eheh. There's actually some strategies to use if one wants to do that... Handicapping preseason NFL is a little too wild and wooly for some (me).... You have to figure the back up QB's will be playing the majority of the time, some coaches don't give a rat's behind about winning in preseason (even though they won't admit that) or they suck at it, some coaches/teams are better in the preseason than they are in the regular season, etc.

If you're really interested, here's a good video that discusses preseason betting strategies.

One of the things you're looking for in any sports betting (IMO), is an error in the line.... The NFL is usually pretty tight/close......college football doesn't get quite the same treatment so, IMO, it's a little easier to find "errors"....

From all accounts, the Niners seem horrible this year. Have to imagine the Texans have better depth, so...not that I wager on preseason... but this seems like a buy opportunity.

Obvi interested in seeing what little we will get of Osweiler, but I am particularly interested in watching the progress of his backup, Savage. Getting a sense that he may be developing into a quality NFL backup QB.

Also want to see Akeem Hunt run the football more.

With all the injuries on the Oline I'm not expecting anything out of the run game. I would imagine a lot of quick passes out of multiple looks.

I can't see how fuller (or anyone else) gets open deep with back ups at both tackle and center positions.

Seems like it could be a good day for BMiller and possibly Cecil (if he's playing)...Tyler Ervin and Akeem Hunt in the short passing game as well)

I'm also curious to see who TAKES that end position opposite JJ.

Also heard a lot of good things about AJ Bouye...Also does KJohnson get a significant number of reps?

That about sums it up....Overall I'm just ready for some football...

PS even though it's preseason I'm still glad Dallas lost...

I'm hoping to see some of the young speed. Osweiler of course. Big guys on DL.

Both teams tight to start. Texans Oline protecting good so far. John Simon made the fumble, touchdown on 9ers second possession.

Am I nuts or is Covington significantly bigger than he was last year?

Am I nuts or was McKinney supposed to be improving in coverage?

Defense didn't look to good on 47 yd pass for TD to TE, game tied at 7.

4th and 9... Tillman: "Great part of that play was he got rid of the ball quick"

Only problem is, it was 5 yards short of the 1rst down marker.

Tillman's an idiot. The ball was clearly late.

It is frustrating to see them dink and dunk after drafting a bunch of track stars.

After a quarter...TACKLING seems to be a big issue.

Very basic defense being called...

1rst preseason game, but the Texans looking like $hit. Getting pushed around on both sides of the ball. Miller's the only one that has looked good so far.

Totes. But I'm not seeing enough pass pro with 60% of the OL starters not in uniform.

A little concerned that Osweiler holds onto the ball too long.

Lamar Miller looks alright.

Defense can't seem to make a form tackle. McKinney in coverage is still a hot mess. And Demps will be a street FA again soon at this rate.

Ready for Savage.

With pretty much a random mixture of Olineman and Dlineman, it was sure that we would get pushed around up front...it just shows that our backups are truly nothing more than backups...lol
