Default Titans Will Wear Oilers Uniforms in HoF Game

...to honor the AFL's 50th anniversary.

http://www.titansonline.com/news/new...php?PRKey=6592

Quote:
The Titans will wear their Oilers uniforms of the early 1960s that were distinguished by the derrick logo on their blue helmets. The team played in Houston from 1960-96 before moving to Tennessee.

Buffalo will wear its “throwback” uniforms that feature a simple red buffalo on a white helmet.

The NFL is planning to celebrate the 50th season of its AFL clubs in numerous ways this year.

This made me throw up....and made my hatred for Bud Adams even more intense.

This doesn't bother me so long as the Chiefs are wearing Dallas Texans uniforms.

I guess Lamar Hunt and then Bud Adams more or less started the AFL, so, there were some early good memories. definitely quit caring in early 90s and 95.

Yes Bud and Lamar together used to pay every player in the league. Not many people realize that, but the AFL would not have survived had Bud not been willing to help the other teams out.

Lamar is in the HOF, and Bud is not. As much as it pains me, Bud does deserve to be in the HOF along with Lamar.

As strong as my hate is toward Bud Adams I agree that he should be in the hall...not being an asshole is not a requirement for entry. I'm sure there are plenty of other asshole backstabbers in the Hall he could hang out with...maybe they could even open a new wing. He has played a very important role in the history of the league though.

That's what the original uniforms looked like back in their AFL Championship days. I've always thought the numerals looked weird but that's how they looked.

Check out the jersies of the 1960 Championship team on the left.

Meh...it's history.

Think that's bad? Imagine being the Broncos and having to don again those San Diego Padres' brown-and-mustard color combination unis with vertical socks.

as shown here.

And here's a rare color photo of an Oilers at Broncos game from 1960 or 1961:

Actually, I think that looks pretty cool. I mean, this is football, not a beauty contest, and those colors are just football to me.

Yeah, the Oilers are history, but damn if it isn't MY history.

That's the point with me! I do go back to the very beginning, with Adams signing Billy Cannon under the Sugar Bowl goalpost in 1958! I don't care if he did help fund the AFL, he screwed over this city big time for a long time. I don't forget and I sure as hell don't forgive.

Amen!

And that uniform is the uniform of Earl Campbell, Bum Phillips and Luv a Blue. And it is the uniform of Run N Shoot, House of Pain, 35-3. It is my cities sports history, and that man stole it.

As a fan I was told we do not matter, and that we where bad fans by the former commissioner. The league did everything it could to bypass the Houston fans. Well screw that man.

VERTICALLY striped socks?! My understanding is that, among the players, those atrocities rank right up there with the NHL's California Golden Seals white skates for pure seething hatred. I heard that they all got together and burned the socks when they changed uniforms. Awful.

That's a bit overstated. The Broncos switched head coaches for 1962 and the new coach decided he needed to jettison the Broncos' colors as well as their attitude so he had the old unis burned during training camp as a motivational ploy. True, the socks were not popular but the burning wasn't just for the socks - it was for the whole ugly-assed ensemble which had been purchased on the cheap from a defunct college bowl game (The Copper Bowl in Tucson, AZ).
