Default Jeffcoat Out For Season

I know some of the early mockers were eyeing Texas DE Jackson Jeffcoat as a possible first-round pick. He tore a pectoral muscle against Oklahoma which will require surgery and keep him out of the rest of the season. Jeffcoat is a junior so this might affect his decision to turn pro a year early. It may also drive down his draft value if he does decide to come out.

Jeffcoat is the son of Jim Jeffcoat, a former DE with the Dallas Cowboys.

I had already heard from some people close to the program that they thought Jeffcoat would be coming back for his senior year, and I think this cements it. He will not be able to workout fully at the combine and/or possibly his senior day, so I don't think he comes out.

Now if Mack Brown leaves, all bets are off.

I read that he missed time during the spring because of pec muscle problems and that sends up a red flag for me that this might be a recurring problem instead of a freak accident.

If so, my personal ranking drops him down to the third round where, if he bombs, he hasn't ruined your draft. If I'm choosing in the low second, I might reach from there but I would bet someone else will ignore the red flag and still take him in the first.
