Default Official Texans @ Colts Game Thread, 10/17/2021

The 1-4 Houston Texans visit the 1-4 Indianapolis Colts this Sunday in an early game on CBS. The Texans are coming off a 25-22 home loss to the Pats, the Colts are coming off a 31-25 road loss to the Ravens - both teams guilty of choking away 2nd half leads. Colts QB Carson Wentz leads the offense and is having a pretty good year statistically - 113/173, 65.3% completions, 1322 yards, 7.6 avg., 7 TDs, 1 INT, with a 99.4 rating. Jonathan Taylor leads the Colt's rushing game with 73 carries, 327 yards, 2 TDs. Top receiver is Michael Pittman, Jr. with 29 receptions, 368 yards and 1 TD.

The Texans have RB Rex Burkhead, C Justin Britt, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill, TE Pharaoh Brown, WR Danny Amendola and OT Laremy Tunsil (thumb surgery today) listed as questionable. WR Nico Collins is coming off IR.

Both teams would like to avoid being 1-5. The Texans showed they can lose a game even if rookie QB Davis Mills has a near-excellent performance. The Colts have their share of injuries, too and might be down because of the tough loss to the Ravens on MNF (short week for them). Just like every week, the Texans will need turnovers to have a shot at a win. It would be nice if they could play hard for 4 quarters/60 minutes. Give me the points:

Colts 27, Texans 20

(My record: 4-1 straight up, 2-3 ATS)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TV = CBS (channel 11 local), noon CST, Sunday, 10/17/2021

Announcers = Spero Dedes, Jay Feely

The line = Colts by 10 to 11

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Sunday viewing in the Houston area:

CBS (late) = Dallas @ New England, Jim Nantz, Tony Romo

FOX (late) = Arizona @ Cleveland, Kevin Kugler, Mark Sanchez

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime Time:

TNF = Tampa Bay @ Philadelphia (FOX/NFLN)

Sunday Morning 8:30 AM CT = Miami vs Jacksonville (in London) (CBS) (Kevin Harlan, Trent Green)

SNF = Seattle @ Pittsburgh (NBC)

MNF = Buffalo @ Tennessee (ESPN)

I like it because it looks like this Sunday we have the option of watching another game in the 3:30 -6:00 slot besides the Dallas game, and it's also a chance to see X-Texans D-Hop & JJ Watt.
Thanks again for giving us the weekend lineup Arky.

Having some trouble figuring why the Colts are such heavy double digit favorites in this. Seems like a reliable trend to take the points with the Texans each week this season unless they are truly playing a legit opponent like the Bills. I don't see the Colts as legit. It actually wouldn't shock me if the Texans found a way to sneak away with a win here.

But I doubt it. Still, this might be close.

Colts 26, Texans 20

Jags finally won a game, ending a 20-game losing streak. Had to go to foreign soil to do it though.

In this game, first two Texans drives all ended in punts. A Jon Greenard sack helped force the Colts first drive to end with a punt.

Texans needed replay to overturn a Phillip Lindsay fumble (he was down). But a sack of Davis Mills ended any hopes of the Texans getting close enough to consider a long FG attempt.

0-0, 5 mins left in the first quarter.

Nico Collins active, has a catch already. Mills finding Brandin Cooks three times already for 20 yards.

Long 51-yard pass from Carson Wentz to an open Parris Campbell, TD Colts.

Beat what looks like poor cover-2 defense.

Terrence Brooks, who got the start, injured in the end zone. Up walking around after a commercial break.

Colts 7, Texans 0. 1:52 remaining in 1st quarter.

Davis Mills so far 7/8, 55 yards.

I watched that game. It was entertaining. Not a Jag or Meyer fan but you could see relief on his face as the monkey jumped off his back...

And there goes TY Hilton again....

Taylor runs it in for a 4 yard TD after breaking a long 84 yard run.

Colts 24, Texans 3

6:37 left in the 3rd qtr.

The switch on the Texan's defense is now in the "off" position.

Taylor only had like 2 carries in the first half.

Texans defense showing an overall lack of talent today.

Texans terrible at finishing drives today. They're moving the ball and getting no results. A lot of dinking and dunking.

About a quarter to go and ToP is Texans 28:09, Colts 17:55.

Colts have several explosive plays and are not messing around....
