It’s actually 3 firsts when you include this year’s pick for supposedly the LT of the future. Miami would have undoubtedly done this deal in March and would have saved us a 1st.
And to think all of this is because Rick Smith refused to negotiate with Duane Brown with 2 years left on his deal. |

It boggles my mind that they fked the Duane Brown situation up so thoroughly.
Good thing I have a fresher memory of their dicking around and losing all their leverage with Clowney to distract me. |

Not satisfied with shooting themselves in the foot this morning, whoever is running the Texans (O'Brien?) decided it was good to shoot themselves in the other foot later in the afternoon.
I thought the Dolphins were going to have a mutiny if Tunsil was traded. So are they now ready to walk out in a show of - what - displeasure? |

The NFL world wants to know, what are the Texans and Bill O'Brien doing?:

We’re basically stuck with the current team (or less) for the next few years. Between the lost draft picks and the money we’re about to shell out to Tunsil and Watson (and maybe JJ again), we have very little ability to improve the team. I just can’t see us adding a significant piece in the next few years absent getting extremely lucky with a mid to late round pick, which is not their strength.
So, do you think the current roster is a championship one? I guess we’ll find out. |

Split the Tunsil trade discussion from the Clowney thread.
Quite possibly one of the most if not the most amazing days as a Texans fan. So much to digest. The Tunsil trade only makes sense if the Texans sign him long term, and the thought is that the team is positioned to offer Tunsil an incredible contract. Was it expensive? To the point it was painful? Yes. But... what is a franchise LT worth? Followng the surprising early retirement of an anguished Andrew Luck, what is the health of your young quarterback worth? If it meant bringing a healthy Luck back, what would the Colts have paid for such a left tackle? The armchair GM in all of us really understands the value of draft picks. But the draft is and will continue to be a crapshoot. Tunsil's value is understood. Watson's value as a healthy QB is even better understood. |

To think, if the Texans (meaning the previous GM) had just moved up a spot to draft the LT from Washington St. instead of watching the Eagles leap up and grab him, this whole exercise would have never happened. I just hope by the time of the 2021 draft we still think Bong Boy is an elite LT. Otherwise, this trade will make the Clowney trade appear sane.
And Stills? I just hope he can stay healthy, unlike Will the Thrill and KK Cutie. All we need is somebody who can take some pressure of D-Hop without winding up on IR. Can anyone step up, please? It certainly leaves open the possibility that the Texans will trade D-Hop next spring to get some of those draft picks back. |

The bigger problem is (1) tanking Clowney's value when he could have recouped half of what you spent on Tunsil if you traded him 2 months ago. Then (2) spending a 1st and a 2nd on OTs who will now not play LT. If you traded for Tunsil 2 months ago then you don't waste those picks and you let Tunsil learn the offense and his OL teammates instead of showing up before week 1. It all demonstrates a total lack of long term planning. The kind of thing you'd expect of a GM who isn't solely (and rightly) focused on getting ready for 2019 games. There is a reason coaches don't have GM power anymore. They are 2 very different jobs. |
