The fear will always be that 4th rounder out plays the 1st rounder. Also with BOB I don't see them keeping a fourth QB, so one of them would most likely be staffed on IR.

So not a likely draft

It's not likely, but I would like to see who picks up the Offense quicker.

Heard that Chargers are willing to trade #3. So I tried it on fanspeak.

Used DraftTek chart

3: R1P3 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA ST
85: R3P22 RB KENNETH DIXON LOUISIANA TECH
120: R4P21 TE NICK VANNETT OHIO ST
159: R5P20 S SEAN DAVIS MARYLAND
166: R5P27 CB CYRUS JONES ALABAMA
198: R6P20 WR KOLBY LISTENBEE TCU

TRADE PARTNER:
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS GET:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 22
ROUND: 2 PICK: 21
FUTURE ROUND 1 PICK
FUTURE ROUND 2 PICK

TEXANS GET:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 3

Expensive Trade, so the question becomes "Is Wentz the Guy"?

That's a heck of a draft, but just too much to give up for my taste. I also don't see Dixon lasting that long. For that cost, I'd probably go a different direction.

I too think the cost is to high. But I wanted to see if it was possible.

Also on this list Dixon was available, and iirc, Williams from Arkansas was there at that pick also.

Wentz seems to be the top-rated QB coming out of the combine. Yep easily the biggest player personnel move the Texans would have ever made to this point in time if this trade would come to pass.
But that is the question here isn't it - "Is Wentz the Guy" ?

I had heard conflicting reports that the 49ers were willing to trade down and that they were willing to trade Kaepernick (the Texans were mentioned as a suitor but apparently nobody bothered to ask the Texans first). So I tried using the offer of our 2016 #1 and 2017 #1 plus 2016 #2 to move to #7 to get Goff or Wentz. The problem was, in this sim, the Cowboys took Wentz so I could either take Lynch, take another position or trade down. I traded back down with Philly at #13 for a pair of thirds.

So I wound up with Lynch, Hooper and both Arkansas RBs but I'm out the following year's #1.

I traded up with the 9ers again for #7 involving our #1s in 2016 and 2017 plus our #2 this year. I also traded down twice for more depth later on:

7: R1P7 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE
86: R3P23 TE NICK VANNETT OHIO STATE
149: R5P10 S MILES KILLEBREW SOUTHERN UTAH
159: R5P20 RB KELVIN TAYLOR FLORIDA
166: R5P27 CB JONATHAN JONES AUBURN
187: R6P9 ILB JOSH FORREST KENTUCKY
198: R6P20 ILB JARED NORRIS UTAH
238: R7P19 FB DEREK WATT WISCONSIN

TRADE PARTNER:
NEW YORK GIANTS
SENT:
ROUND: 4 PICK: 21

RECEIVED:
ROUND: 5 PICK: 10
ROUND: 6 PICK: 9

TRADE PARTNER:
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
SENT:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 22
ROUND: 2 PICK: 21
FUTURE ROUND 1 PICK

RECEIVED:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 7

TRADE PARTNER:
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
SENT:
ROUND: 3 PICK: 22

RECEIVED:
ROUND: 3 PICK: 23
ROUND: 7 PICK: 19

I forget which big board I used but they were all pre-combine.

FanSpeak's first list post combine.

11: R1P11 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE
52: R2P21 DT VERNON BUTLER LOUISIANA TECH
85: R3P22 RB ALEX COLLINS ARKANSAS
120: R4P21 CB CYRUS JONES ALABAMA
140: R5P1 TE TYLER HIGBEE WESTERN KENTUCKY
159: R5P20 WR KOLBY LISTENBEE TCU
166: R5P27 S JAYRON KEARSE CLEMSON
198: R6P20 OT WILLIE BEAVERS WESTERN MICHIGAN

Trades

TRADE PARTNER: CHICAGO BEARS GET:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 22
FUTURE ROUND 1 PICK

TEXANS RECEIVED:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 11

TRADE PARTNER: TENNESSEE TITANS GET:
FUTURE ROUND 4 PICK

TEXANS RECEIVED:
ROUND: 5 PICK: 1

5 offensive picks
3 defensive picks

Potential franchise QB, athletic NT with size, stud SEC RB with speed, day one slot CB, athletic TE, burner WR, box safety, that can cover, raw athletic OT.

Two trades that give up next year, but the offense starts to rebuild now.

I could endorse the draft. Nice group.

If the Texans were to get Wentz, then I would consider the draft a success. Add in the other parts picked here and you added much needed depth or potential starters.
