He's going to play first base again next year and drive in as many runs as the guys in front of him allow. I have no idea why he gets savaged so. It's not his fault Drayton gave him a big contract. His contract wouldn't look that out of place on a decent team like, say, the Cardinals. But on Kansas City South it certainly stands out. He was brought to Houston to drive in runs and that's what he's done. It's not his fault the team blows and the old owner is a moron and the new one wants to dramatically slash the payroll.

He gets savaged because his production, RBI, Avg., HR's etc. is way down... And yes, they're stuck with him..

His production is down, certainly. He's had two straight years with miserable starts. But he is not the reason that the team blows. He actually plays a decent first base. Please know that I'd be happy to see Hinze or Wallace or whoever there instead but Carlos is all ours this year and next.

The Texans have the worst return game I have ever seen in my life.

Tate for 3.

Dump pass to Tate gets it out to the 16, 1st down.

Tate for about 3.

End of 3rd quarter.

------------------

Deep pass over the middle to Dickerson is inc. 3rd and 7 coming up.

Pass to Graham gets the 1st down at the Texan 28.

Tate for 3 tough yards.

Tate gets 7 and the 1st down.

Tate for 3.

(TV?) Timeout.

Ooooo, Leinart gets sacked for a big loss. 3rd and 18 coming up.

Obie gets about 9 so Texans have to punt.

Punt gets knocked loose on the reception by Barber and Texans recover at the Niner 15 yard line!

and while the SF offense is terrible, their 1st string defense had not allowed a point in the preseason. They are not a great defense necessarily, but marching up and down the field and putting up 18 first downs before half time is impressive.

I am, I admit it.

And Bob, sure, I know what JD has done. It's impressive and I'm really excited for him. And I know what everyone makes. But what do you want to do? The team has to pay Carlos this year and next. What's your point? That they shouldn't have signed him at that contract? No, they shouldn't have. Cardinals fans are going to be bitching about Holliday's contract here before too long.

Sometimes you overpay for a guy you think you need. Antonio Smith, please pick up the white courtesy phone, Antonio Smith...

The funny thing is that the only reason the Astros signed Carlos Lee was because Carlos Beltran didn't stay. The difference is that, in 2011, Beltran still had trade value.

What angers me about the Astros is they trade their productive affordable players because they allegedly need to slash payroll but don't trade their overpriced underproductive players so they keep bitching about cutting payroll while keeping the overpaid sluggards.

When I was growing up, you dumped the bad players and kept the good ones. The Astros have turned that strategy on its head.

Carlos Lee in not tradable. Surely you understand that. You can complain all you like about his contract but to complain that the team does not trade him today is foolish.

And what productive, affordable players have they traded? Pence and Bourn? Pence is not good enough to overpay for and he has one year of arb eligibility if I recall correctly. Bourn is a complete player and it was a shame to lose him but Boras is going to ass rape the team that signs him long term. I would love for the Astros to be a large payroll team that routinely resigns guys like Bourn with agents like Boras. But they're not. The Astros got some intriguing players in return for both of those guys that hopefully will help the club when they get good again in 2018 or so.

Niners bring the kickoff back to their 19.

Dump pass to the back is stopped cold by Reed. Flag on Niners for hands to the face is declined. 2nd and 12 coming up.

Hunter for about 5. 3rd and 7 coming up.

Dump pass over the middle gets the 1st down at the Niner 35.

Hunter for maybe 2. 2nd and 8 coming up.

Kaepernick, pressured, can't find a receiver and throws it away. 3rd and 8 coming up.

Deep pass downfield goes over everyone. Niners to punt.

Punt is downed inside the Texan 5.
