Since there are multiple pages that include overall NFL draft mocks in the other thread, I figured I'd start a clean one here pertaining to the Texans only. I'm using the drafttek.com simulated computer draft to cherry pick my mock. I'm assuming some of the guys (like Menelik) won't actually be there where I have them listed below, but again, I'm cherry picking.
--------------------------------------------- 27. Justin Hunter WR - Yes, Minter is there, but the offensive cupboard is getting bare so Texans take a gamble on a home-run threat. They'll address LB later or some other way. 57. Menelik Watson RT - Some pundits (and a big sloth over at the chronic) have the Texans taking Watson at #27, but Smith's patience pays off and they get Watson in the 2nd Rd. I'm not sure this guy is good value at #27, but he's excellent value here. 89. Shawn Williams S - Time to address the D and Williams fits in nicely at S and should be a SPT force. 95. Travis Kelce TE - Surprise!!! In a WTF? moment, the Texans let Casey walk and suddenly make this position a substantial weakness (IMO). OD is slowing down considerably and Graham hasn't done much and is a concussion waiting to happen. I like Vernon McDonald a lot here too (more so than Escobar and such), but Kelce seems to have a bit more juice to his game. As for the Texans filling their appetite for a TE from Rice, I'm hoping they sign the hidden gem over there named Luke Wilson as a UDFA. 124. Zac Dysert QB - I highly doubt the Texans will make this pick or any QB for that matter, but it's time they look at finding Schuab's eventual replacement. Dysert has way more upside than anyone else currently backing up Schaub. IMO, they're flirting with disaster - not only this year, but in future years - and they've got to get a potential replacement (one who, you know, has some real potential) in the pipeline -- ASAP!! 160. Ty Powell OLB - He has some off-the-field concerns, but hasn't too bad of a citizen. He definitely has the 'tweener' body and speed to be a pass rushing specialist the Texans could use. Even with Barwin gone, I feel that rumor of moving Reed inside is still alive and kicking and will happen IF they can find the right OLB. 201. Marquise Goodwin WR/KR/PR - I was going to pick Coby Hamilton here due to the fact that I'm not a big fan of Goodwin because I think he's a one-trick pony and they need WRs that can play all downs. I think a lot of people would actually take Hamilton over Goodwin. However, Goodwin brings blazing speed and return skills and they already drafted the tall burner WR in Hunter, so why not get a potential game-breaker for the return game? Lord knows they've needed something like that in like...forever!! 206. Josh Boyd NT - You could really insert any trench player here whether it be OL or DL, but I'm going with a big, rotational NT that gives them some size when needed. The schedule has some real bruiser offenses/OLs/RBs this year so a little size couldn't hurt. Plus, I'm suspecting Cody's gone so they could use some depth inside. I could also see them going with someone like Zeke Motta here to help out STs and maybe hope they find a player at S. 233. Cierre Wood RB - Tate's as good as gone next year. Well, probably gone unless Foster gets seriously hurt and Tate comes in and does well. Anyway, they still need some depth here and I think Wood has the size as skills to fit in nicely with this offense. Last edited by popanot; 04-22-2013 at 12:45 PM. |
