From the Examiner:
http://www.examiner.com/x-778-Housto...ign-cornerback "Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting via his twitter page that the Texans have signed former Chargers cornerback, Cletis Gordon (aka 'Flash' according to his website). No word on who was released to make room for Gordon. Gordon, who was released by the Chargers Monday, was a restricted free agent for the Chargers in 2009 and received a second round tender which he signed earlier this year. A second round tender is the third highest of four RFA tenders, worth $1.545 million for one year and second round compensation to the Chargers if another team signed Gordon to an offer sheet the Chargers refused to match. Gordon, out of Jackson State, joined the Chargers in 2006 as an undrafted free agent. In this artcle by Acee which appeared Monday on signonsandiego.com, Gordon was described as the Chargers 'fourth corner.' Acee also described Gordon's release as "surprising because of the potential of the player involved," but it was also reported that the Chargers were displeased with Gordon's "lack of physicality and effort on special teams." Sometimes getting released can snap a player back into reality. And it's a win-win if the Texans become the beneficiary. It will be up to David Gibbs to coach him up. Gordon is a big corner (6-1" 205) and could help shore up a Texans secondary that's been weakened by Jacques Reeves broken leg (he could return by Week 2) and Dunta Robinson's ongoing disagreement with the front office." Smithiak must be REALLY worried about the secondary........ ![]() |
