Default Random Thoughts

If J.J. Watt is possibly healthy enough to return for the playoffs, I hope the Texans say absolutely nothing to discourage that idea. The reason being that if opposing teams *think* Watt could play, they will have to devote some time to gameplanning for him.

Activate him, dress him and let him stay on the sidelines if he isn't capable of playing. If O'Brien really wants to get wild and crazy, line up Watt as a tight end on some play, send him in motion and then have him run himself out of the play so he doesn't make contact. That will freak out their DC as much as their OC. Mind games, folks.

Also, how soon do we have to pay Watson some real money? Once his rookie contract is up, we are going to have to pay him Russell Wilson money and if you thought some people went crazy over trading Clowney, they'll burn down the stadium if we trade Watson.

I believe Watt said he feels great - just waiting on clearance from the doctors...

As for Watson, he'll probably command a top notch salary. If he stays healthy, I got no problem with it (it's not my money). He seems to be kinda wiry strong with a good constitution. He doesn't seem to be the greedy type or want to play hard ball so perhaps he will be reasonable...

Pulling the trigger on a big payday for a young QB is risky business in the NFL, or for that matter so is paying a vet FA Super Bowl QB champ like the Jags did Foles it would seem. But Tribisky is a disaster with the Bears and so is Goff in LA.
I'm almost there with Watson on his big payday but lets see how the rest of the season plays out including another opportunity in the P/Os for our young star QB.

O'Brien says Watt will have a final MRI during Week 17 and, if cleared, will be put on the roster for the playoffs. It's noted that if he re-tears the muscle, he should be healed by the time the 2020 season begins after another surgery.

I think Watt's impact on game preparation makes him someone I'd activiate even if he was not cleared to play. Just suit him up and announce he'll be activated to force the other team to gameplan for him whether he is used or not.

Well, if they do activate him, I don't expect him to be 100% for a game or two (or three) until he gets his full game stamina adjusted. But yeah, if he's feeling fine, got clearance and wants to give it a shot, throw him out there.... I'm thinking he'll get better the longer the Texans can stay in the playoffs.

And what does your crystal ball tell you about how long the Texans stay in the P/Os ?

I see a large black bird with big fangs blocking the path.

And I say the 2019 NFL season has been a significant success for the Texans if they are able to make it to the conference championship vs the Ravens.

I agree if they make the AFCC game. But if the standings remain the same and the Texans win their game against their wild card team, then they will probably meet the Ravens in the 2nd round (divisional playoffs). It would be the Ravens first playoff game. That's the neat thing about getting a bye - you only have to beat one stinkin' team and boom, you're in the AFCC game...

Default In other news...

Tom Coughlin is fired in Jacksonville after a bad season and the revelation that fully half the grievances filed by the NFLPA were against the Jaguars.

Kareem Jackson is suspended for the final two games of the NFL season for a DUI back in September. The NFL waited until he had been found guilty in court before handing down their suspension.

Brilliant move by the Chiefs claiming Terrell Thuggs on waivers when his stated wish was to go back and play for the Ravens. How is it that a player can switch teams so late in the season like it's fantasy baseball? After first refusing to report, Thuggs has now agreed to play for the Chiefs and will no doubt be the guy who lines up offside on the critical third down stop in *this year's* AFC Championship Game when the Chiefs play, you guessed it, the Ravens. I hope the Ravens cut him a game check.

I think if you mortgage your future going all in, you should come away with more than that.

I have no problem with your thinking and don't think you're wrong, I just worry about what this season cost the next few.

I agree. If this season ends up like the last few, it's been a failure.
