Default Vinnie Iyer on the Texans

decent for a national article. the only thing i found weird was this:

Quote:
They were average in the sack department (31), but the stat was somewhat inflated because 19 1/2 came from end Mario Williams and tackle Amobi Okoye.
wouldn't that mean the stat was somewhat DEFLATED?!? i mean if two guys account for 60% of the stat....wouldn't that mean if we had decent guys around the two hosses (what's the plural of hoss? whatever it is insert that word here) we would have an above average line? i know it overanalyzing what he's saying but still....

D'OH D'OH D'OH.....http://news.yahoo.com/s/sn/20080707/...breakoutseason

hnyaaa...that's what they all say....they all say "d'oh"....

I don't know. I just hope this year's totals are inflated over last year's.

I was checking sacks for 2007 on nfl.com, there were nine teams with fewer sacks than Texcans, least being 22. There were 19 teams with more sacks, best being NY Giants with 53 and second was NE Patriots with 47, so, perhaps sacks is a good indicator of how strong your defense and team is overall.

I agree with you on that one. Not only is a sack often a drive killer, but if a team has a lot of sacks it probably has a lot of pressures too. And pressures can be drive killers too because if a QB is hurrying his throw he will more often either make a bad throw or a bad decision. Lots of interceptions are caused by pressures.

I think Weaver hurt our defense a lot last year. Frankly I think the very best thing about Mario is that he seems to be able to get sacks from the STRONGSIDE as well or better than he can from the weakside. As soon as the Texans can get Weaver replaced with a top notch pass rusher, they can put the new guy at weakside and Mario at strongside. I expect The Texans to go for a top notch pass rushing DE in the draft next year. If Okoye develops into the pass rushing phenom everyone is hoping he will be, the Texans could have a very salty pass rush.
